With two weekly frequencies, the airline Edelweiss Air, of Swiss origin, will arrive in Colombia for the first time this year.
It will start operations on November 22 and until May 2024, initially as a seasonal service offering the connection between the city of Zurich with Bogotá and Cartagena.
It will be an Airbus A340-300 with capacity for 314 passengers that will fly twice a week between the European country and Colombia.
According to representatives of the airline, “the introduction of direct air services from Zurich to Bogotá and Cartagena from November 2023 is an exciting development for Edelweiss. These new flights to Colombia will boost tourism between Switzerland and Colombia. We hope to bring many tourists from Switzerland to visit and explore this beautiful and diverse country. The new flight will also create a new and efficient way for Colombians traveling to Switzerland or further afield to Europe thanks to excellent connectivity through the center of Zurich. With Edelweiss as part of the Lufthansa Group, our passengers can seamlessly combine our flights with those of Lufthansa, which will create an attractive schedule with many possibilities.”
With Bogotá and Cartagena as new destinations, the Swiss airline, sister of Swiss Intl. Airlines and part of the Lufthansa Group, will connect with 90 destinations in 38 countries.
His arrival in the country is the result of the strategy led by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, through ProColombia, to strengthen the country's international connectivity, and the work coordinated with tourism unions, and national and regional authorities, such as the Cartagena de Indias Tourism Corporation, SACSA, OPAIN and the IDT.
The Vice Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bravo, celebrated “that Edelweiss Air has chosen Colombia as the destination for its new operation, a sign of the country's progress as an international destination and of the confidence that international airlines have in the Colombian market. For the Government of President Gustavo Petro, tourism is a fundamental sector in sustainable and productive development, and in that objective, connectivity is key”.
The above are added to the 13 new routes announced between August and December 2022, and to the official announcement of Bogotá as the venue for Routes Americas 2024, the main air route development event in the region, where airline decision makers they will be able to know first-hand the Colombian destination and its offer.
