Mexico registers the largest investment in tourism in the last 60 years

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that in the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the largest investment in support of tourism in the last 60 years has been registered, which from 2019 to 2023 , amounts to a total of 500 thousand 778 million pesos.

When participating in the Plenary Meeting of Presidents of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur), chaired by Héctor Tejada Shaar, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) stressed that this is through the participation of various agencies of the Government of Mexico.

In the presence of state Secretaries of Tourism, presidents of chambers and associations of the tourism sector, and businessmen, he reiterated that the regime change brought with it a shift in the national tourism policy, which today seeks, in its various programs and actions, to benefit the population local, abandoning old vices and not managing inertia. "In keeping with current times, we have innovated with original products and initiatives, always with a sustainable, regional and inclusive approach," he said.

Torruco Marqués stressed that the accumulated Foreign Direct Investment in Tourism from 2019 to 2022 reached an amount of 154 thousand 331 million pesos, almost 6% of the total Foreign Direct Investment in Mexico. “Only in 2022, the IEDT closed at 3,447 million dollars, 216% more than the year before the pandemic,” he commented.

He explained that, through the Secretary of Development, Agrarian, Territorial and Urban (Sedatu), from 2019 to 2022 works, projects and urban equipment work have been carried out in tourist destinations in the country, totaling 7 thousand 243 million pesos. For 2023, the assigned amount is 4 thousand 938 million pesos.

He indicated that, in airport matters, from 2019 to 2024 the investment will be 95 thousand 465 million pesos, corresponding: 149 million pesos to the modernization of the Chetumal International Airport in Quintana Roo, completed in 2021; 2 thousand 720 million pesos to the expansion and improvement of the Tepic International Airport, Nayarit, which will end in February 2024.

Likewise, there will be 463 million pesos for improvement and modernization of the Puerto Escondido Airport, in Oaxaca, which is expected to be completed in March 2024; 826 million pesos for the construction of the Barrancas del Cobre Airport, work that will be ready in June 2023; 88 thousand 107 million pesos from the construction of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), which began operations in March of last year; and 3 thousand 200 million pesos for the International Airport of Tulum, Quintana Roo, construction that will culminate in December 2023.

He explained that the investment in highway infrastructure, from 2019 to 2023, will reach 28 thousand 729 million pesos, which includes works such as: the Oaxaca-Salina Cruz highway, with 169 km and an investment of 10 billion pesos; the one from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido, with 104.3 km and an investment of 8 thousand 234 million pesos; that of Tepic-Compostela-Las Varas, in Nayarit, with 55.4 km and an investment of 4 thousand 915 million pesos; as well as the bridge over the Nichupté Lagoon, in Cancun, Quintana Roo, with 8.8 km and an investment of 5 thousand 580 million pesos.

The Secretary of Tourism also highlighted that regarding the railway issue, the Mayan Train, which will cover 1,525 km of railway, 21 stations, 13 bus stops and 117 high-impact tourist attractions, benefiting five federal entities: Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco and Chiapas. From 2019 to 2022, 207 thousand 277 million pesos have been invested.

He added that, for this project, Sectur has created 64 proposals for cultural and adventure tourism packages.

Similarly, other options have been prepared for romance, health and wellness, meeting and retirement tourism, which are specialized segments; as well as the creation of menu alternatives for the entire tourist circuit, which includes dishes, desserts and drinks typical of the Mexican southeast.

He highlighted the projects promoted in Quintana Roo, whose total investment, from 2019 to 2023, is 2,795 million pesos and which is broken down as follows: 129 million pesos in the dredging of the Zaragoza Canal; one thousand 084 million pesos in the remodeling of Boulevard Luis Donaldo Colosio, in Cancun; 360 million pesos in the Cancun Airport distributor; one billion pesos in the archaeological corridor, which includes the archaeological zones of Paamul II, between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, and Ichkabal, located in Bacalar; and 222 million pesos in the comprehensive tourism project Marina Cozumel.

He stressed the importance of promoting regional tourism, and an example of this is the joint effort with the Governments of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, Sonora and Nayarit in order to detonate the "Mar de Cortés" region, which will integrate tourism to these states through cruises that will cross the waters of the Gulf of California, stopping at the main points of interest along the coast and islands of the region.

Torruco Marqués distinguished the support that Concanaco-Servytur has provided to the agency under his charge, supporting each of the programs and actions undertaken since the beginning of the present administration, such as his technical advice on the digitalization of the tourist offer of the Magical Towns. .

He recognized his support for the creation of the digital platform to promote and market the tourist product "Islas Marías", conceived with a social and sustainable vision, an example of product integration and a fundamental factor in responding to the needs, requirements and expectations of a tourist. increasingly informed and demanding. On this platform, potential tourists can purchase interesting packages, which include 8 tourist experiences developed by Sectur.

He also thanked the president of this organization, Héctor Tejada Shaar, for having been part of the Tianguis Turístico México 2023, Mexico City, which was carried out with great success, surpassing all the records established in previous editions, and which already marked a milestone. in the history of tourism in Mexico.

For his part, the president of Concanaco-Servytur, Héctor Tejada Shaar, highlighted the importance of this Plenary Meeting of Presidents of Concanaco-Servytur as a very relevant event and the largest at the national level, and proof of this, he pointed out, is the presence of federal and state tourism authorities.

In this event, the presidents of Concanaco-Servytur and the Association of Secretaries of Tourism (Asetur) signed a Macro Collaboration Agreement with the purpose of working together to promote tourism at the national level with the aim of strengthening the sector and promoting the competitiveness of tourism in Mexico.

Tejada Shaar pointed out that Concanaco-Servytur promotes the digitization of the sector through platforms such as Meet Mexico (Meet Ensenada, Meet Los Cabos, Meet Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit) Concaclick and Visit Islas Marías.

On his occasion, the president of Asetur, Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, recognized the close collaboration with Concanaco-Servytur after the successful Tianguis Turístico, where it was possible to consolidate large projects, create tourist routes to increase international tourism and boost tourism. internal.
