Guanacaste Airport, a member of the VINCI Airports network, has broken three records so far this year. During the first quarter of 2023, it reached the historical traffic of tourist visits. March registered the month with the highest number of passengers passing through the terminal; and also in March, the day with the greatest visitation in history was recorded.

The results for the first quarter of 2023 – which were published by VINCI Airports last week – show that 553,991 passengers transited through Guanacaste Airport. These figures represent 29% above the same period in 2022.

March also made history by registering 184,617 passengers, thus surpassing the record of visitors set last January 2023.

The third record was reached on Saturday, March 11, the busiest day in the history of Guanacaste Airport with 9,922 tourists.

The cooperative alliance between CORIPORT, the Guanacaste Airport concessionaire, the local authorities and VINCI Airports, has been a key factor in reaching these records. Currently, American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Airlines are in the top three places as the airlines that mobilize the most number of passengers. Guanacaste reached, as a total average of flights, 89% of seats occupied during the first quarter of the year. The main issuing markets have been Toronto, Houston and Miami.

As confirmation of this positive moment and trend, Guanacaste Airport obtained for the fifth consecutive year the award for Customer Service Quality (ASQ) in Latin America and the Caribbean in the category of less than two million passengers according to the Airports Council International.

"We have witnessed the growth in tourist visits, which fills us with joy since the recovery has been faster than projected after the so-called "zero season" in 2020. These figures justify the announcement made more and more every day. from the government on the investment for improvements on the air side in the coming months. Guanacaste is a growing destination and the income in dollars from tourism permeates the different economic activities that take place in the area and improves employment and the quality of life of the Guanacaste people,” said Rebeca Álvarez, Executive Director of CATURGUA.

“These historical figures are the result of our plans to attract airlines and the consolidation of Guanacaste as an attractive and aspirational destination. Guanacaste Airport provides positive mobility, attracting visitors who value our offer more, who prioritize the quality of the destination and our services," said César Jaramillo, general manager of Guanacaste Airport.
