Dominican Republic targets 10 million tourists this year

The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic, is holding the DATE 2023 tourism marketing fair, which is part of the promotion agenda of the country as a destination

Within the framework of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic released data on the visits of travelers last year and the objectives for this 2023.

In 2022, 8.5 million tourists arrived in the country. Of these, 7.1 million foreigners arrived by air. And for this year, it is expected to reach 10 million tourists, which implies great growth for the sector. 

In this first quarter, 2.8 million tourists have already arrived, this has been a precedent in the history of Dominican tourism. It is desired to turn the Dominican Republic into a sustainable and environmentally friendly destination. By May, the Government will sign a resolution to eliminate plastic from all hotels. 

In addition, the reduction in the price of airplane fuel is being evaluated, in order to reduce the cost of travel tickets. While the most important beaches in the country are being renovated. 

The Dominican Republic is the first country to hold a seminar to find a solution to the sargassum that covers the beaches of the Caribbean Sea.
