The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic carries out the twenty-third edition of the "Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange", a tourism marketing fair, which is part of the promotion agenda of the Dominican Republic as a destination. There we had the opportunity to talk with Encarna Piñero, CEO of Grupo Piñero, who told us about the new Cayo Levantado Resort, oriented towards sustainability and innovation.
What was the objective set at the beginning of the project?
What we really sought when we considered the Cayo Levantado project was to turn the island into a unique and different experience, and put it at a higher level.
We began to think and create that concept focused on generating an experience that represents the Dominican Republic but concentrated on an island. And it was through music, culture, gastronomy, interior design... We wanted to apply and value all our years of experience in the country and the hotel industry, and all the new trends in terms of management innovation, especially environmental sustainability.
How did the name of Cayo Levantado Resort come about?
When this great project began to grow, in which all the members of our team have participated, also incorporating external talents that could add visions to us, we decided that it could be called Cayo Levantado Resort, because the destination itself is already a unique experience. And we can say that we have turned this project into a luxury, so that each guest can find their own rhythm, connecting with nature and culture.
It is amazing how they rebuilt and based the hotel on Dominican culture and crafts…
We planned it a lot, since it is part of the enhancement of the artisans of the area to give them visibility through tourism.
Have you thought about generating this project in other places?
This is just beginning but there are also projects for the future, once we see how the results are giving with respect to our different types of clients, we will of course be able to start the project in other places. It would be fantastic!
