Volaris, the Mexican airline that operates in Mexico, the United States, Central and South America, received its first aircraft from the Airbus facility in Mobile, Alabama, becoming the first foreign airline to receive an aircraft at said facility.
The A320neo aircraft, registration N549VL, joins the fleet as number 122 and is the first received by Volaris from the purchase order for 80 A320neo family aircraft, signed in 2017 and amounting to more than nine billion dollars. . This order was part of an order for 430 aircraft placed jointly with four airlines from Grupo Indigo Partners.
“This delivery represents the consolidation of our growth and shows the viability of the low-cost model. I am proud to remember that day in 2017 when we signed a historic purchase order, and today to celebrate the first delivery of this order, which also makes us the first foreign airline to receive an aircraft from Mobile. Purchasing aircraft on this scale ensures competitiveness in the airline's most expensive asset; For this reason, I am excited to say that today we are inaugurating a new stage in the 'even lower cost of flying' in Mexico, the United States and Central America,” commented Enrique Beltranena, general director of Volaris.
Mobile has an important strategic advantage, since, being located in the American continent, Volaris will see savings in costs, transportation and fuel consumption during the aircraft delivery process.
“Throughout 17 years we have consolidated a close and strategic relationship with Volaris. This first aircraft - of the historic order of 80 aircraft received in 2017 - will fuel Volaris' long-term growth. The performance and efficiency of the A320neo will allow Volaris to continue offering low fares to its customers, while reducing its carbon footprint,” said Arturo Barreira, Airbus President for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Starting in June, this aircraft will serve the markets of Mexico, the United States, Central and South America.
"The N549VL will take to the skies reminding us of two milestones in our history: the largest purchase order signed with Airbus and the first aircraft we received from that commitment, which was also the first Airbus delivered to a foreign airline at its Mobile plant. ,” Beltranena concluded.
Volaris is the largest operator of Airbus A320neo family aircraft in Latin America, and currently has an agreement to receive a total of 143 Airbus NEO family aircraft in the coming years. This demonstrates the financial strength of Volaris and guarantees its growth in the Mexican market, as well as in air traffic to the United States and Central America.
