BRAZTOA opens registration for the Braztoa Sustainability Award 2023/24

The 11th edition of the awards brings new categories and a simplified registration process

BRAZTOA (Brazilian Association of Tour Operators) opens registration for the Braztoa Sustainability Award 2023/24, the main recognition in sustainable tourism in Brazil, duly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and other national and international best practices.  

The Award completes 11 years with more than a thousand initiatives registered and 104 awarded, coming from all regions of Brazil. 

Reflecting the dynamism, audacity, creativity and innovation that mark the performance of Braztoa - and of the sector as a whole -, the Award remains attentive to the necessary changes and transformations, and in this eleventh edition, reorganizes the categories, brings the valorization of experiences and management with a sustainability approach, in addition to the possibility of an Honorable and Outstanding Mention, seeking an objective selection process, which will recognize up to 10 initiatives.

With applications open until August 21, the Braztoa Sustainability Award 2023/24 aims to encourage, recognize and give visibility to initiatives that stand out as the best sustainability practices throughout the national tourism chain, in social, environmental and economic, contributing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Brazil.

“We have reached the eleventh year of this journey that continues to connect the market, companies, people and the world, with the aim of contributing to transforming the environment in which we live into a better space, as well as inspiring people to be more committed. ”, said Marina Figueiredo, executive president of BRAZTOA. We continue with our objective of encouraging the tourism chain to act in an environmentally responsible, socially fair and economically viable manner, in addition to encouraging the tourism industry to offer sustainable products, services and experiences and enable the multiplication of good initiatives”, added Marina.

Categories:

There will be two categories (management/governance and experience/product), plus highlights and possible honorable mentions.

1 - Management/Governance – Operators associated with Braztoa, Business Partners (companies linked to the tourism sector) or Institutional Partners (foundations, associations, civil society organizations and government institutions that work in the tourism sector) can apply - open to associates or not associated with Braztoa - with actions aimed at the sustainable management/governance of a company, entity or tourist destination.  

2 - Experience/Product - Operators associated with Braztoa, Commercial Partners (companies linked to the tourism sector) or Institutional Partners (foundations, associations, civil society organizations and government institutions that work in the tourism sector) - open to associates or non-associates a Braztoa - with actions aimed at building or improving sustainable tourist experiences or experiences.  

Highlight - Space for innovative projects, with less than 2 years of activities; Communication initiatives (newspapers, materials, articles, etc.); and/or academic work and research, have great potential in building a more sustainable tourism, based on the validation of the judges.

Selection process:

The selection process was widely evaluated by the judges and the technical team involved in the Award. The result was the maintenance of a simplified route, subdivided into phases, so those interested will only have to invest more time in the candidacy, since it is selected for the later phases, with more chances of winning.

For example, documents will not be sent in the first phase, when it will take a maximum of 60 minutes to complete the initial registration form, with open and closed questions.  

Evaluation criteria:

The registered initiatives will be evaluated based on the criteria: scope, replicability, relevance, innovation, coherence, scope of the impact and contribution to the mitigation of the negative effects of climate change,

In addition, the Award participants will be analyzed, at all stages of the selection process, regarding their alignment with Braztoa's values: ethics and transparency; compromise and responsibility; collaboration and association; innovation; creativity; dynamism and resilience; and systemic sustainability.

To provide an enriching experience, we created a playlist on YouTube with explanatory videos about the evaluated criteria, valuable guidance and important concepts for the presentation of initiatives. In addition, we will hold interactive clarification events to bring the Prize even closer to the participants. We want everyone to be well prepared from the beginning of the registration. Profile of initiatives and eligibility:

The Award's central focus is on initiatives that represent the best practices in sustainability in the tourism sector. In this way, the winners are not the companies and organizations as a whole, but the sustainable actions that were registered by them. 

All entries will go through an eligibility filter within the profile searched for the Award. Initiatives will only be accepted:  

– With 2 years or more of activities

– Formally framed in the categories proposed in this edition;  

– That impact national tourism, even by subscribers not registered in Brazilian territory;  

– Carried out directly by the company/organization carrying out the action;  

– Submitted via the online application form.  

Participating companies and organizations will be subject to technical inspections and requests to submit additional and supporting information.

Award:

– All the finalists are publicly recognized through Braztoa's social networks and the publications made by the associated media.  

- All finalists will have the right to shared lodging and food at the award destination, to personally attend the Award Ceremony, at the initiative of a representative (transportation to the destination, as well as other expenses are borne by the candidate).  

– The winners are publicly recognized at the Award Ceremony, which takes place simultaneously with the Braztoa Convention, at a place and date to be announced later, with a certificate of participation and a trophy.  

– Braztoa will announce the winners in the Braztoa 2024 Yearbook, as well as in its communication channels and in the channels of the collaborating media.  

– All winners will receive a digital badge as “Winning Initiative of the Braztoa Sustainability Award 2022-23”, which can be used publicly, as long as they follow the predefined rules that they will receive at the end of the process.

– All the winners become part of the Braztoa Sustainability Network

The initiatives that obtain "Honorable Mention" and "Outstanding" will not be entitled to prizes, obtaining these only visibility and recognition by the jury for their importance to the tourism sector.
