SiteMinder, the world's leading open hotel commerce platform, opens a new office in Barcelona, more than a decade after introducing the world's first subscription-based hotel distribution software in Spain. The new headquarters will be a new center to support the sales departments and onboarding operations for Europe, complementing the offices that the company already has in Berlin, Galway and London.
Barcelona thus becomes the ninth office that SiteMinder has worldwide, along with Bangalore, Bangkok, Berlin, Dallas, Galway, London, Manila and Sydney. More than 60 employees will work at this new headquarters, either from Barcelona itself, or working remotely from other parts of Spain.
Barcelona is a strategic point in SiteMinder's expansion plans, not only because of its geographical position, but also because it is a mature and international destination. Not surprisingly, Barcelona has more than 125,000 hotel beds, making it the second most important tourist destination after Madrid, according to Exceltur's Atlas of Social Contribution to Tourism. Added to this is the fact that, of the almost 10 million people who visited the city of Barcelona last year, nearly 80 percent were international tourists. In addition, Barcelona is an example of a city concerned about the sustainability of tourism and generates a large amount of employment related to the sector (directly or indirectly) and of increasing quality.
"The new Barcelona office represents SiteMinder's commitment to offering a service that is hard to match, not only to the thousands of hoteliers who use our technology in Spain, but also to those across Europe, where travel has returned with a bang," says Sara Padrosa, Regional Manager of SiteMinder in Spain. “In keeping with our growth story, we are building stronger one-on-one connections with hotels in more markets, offering exciting employment opportunities for local talent, and finding new ways to exceed our guests' expectations.”
Padrosa also stresses that the Spanish tourism sector is experiencing a great year thanks to accumulated demand. According to SiteMinder's World Hotel Index, local hotels are receiving almost 115% of the booking volume they had on these same dates in 2019, with more than 75% of booked stays being for the summer months.
Ángel López, commercial and contracting director of Hoteles Center de Barcelona, affirms: “SiteMinder is a qualitative leap for any hotel and for us, at Hoteles Center, it is part of the essence of how we work. They always offer great reliability, innovative solutions and excellent personalized support. We are sure that this new office and the path taken in Spain will bring great value to all of us who trust SiteMinder technology locally”.
The opening of SiteMinder's offices in Barcelona follows the company's partnership with the Gremi d'Hotels de Barcelona, the region's leading industry body, which will help further amplify SiteMinder's impact on hotels in Spain.
