Based on statistics, the observatory allows measuring the impact of meeting tourism in Paraguay. It was established in 2017 as a result of a strategic alliance between the Polytechnic Faculty of the National University of Asunción (FP-UNA), the Asunción Convention & Visitors Bureau (AC&VB), and the National Secretariat of Tourism, within the framework of an agreement and specific inter-institutional cooperation agreement.
Regarding the state policies carried out by the Senatur as the governing body of Tourism in Paraguay, it is important to highlight that the OETR Py is included in subprogram 6.2.1 "Strengthening of Tourism Observatories" of the Master Plan for Sustainable Development of the Tourism Sector of Paraguay 2019-2026, prepared according to the axes of the National Development Plan 2030.
Likewise, in the update of this document, the Master Plan for Sustainable Development of the Tourism Sector of Paraguay 2023-2030, has been specifically incorporated into axis 4 "Governance", within the strategy "4.3. Design and implementation of an intelligence system”.
In this sense, the National University of Asunción (UNA) as a pioneer of Higher Education in the country, has as its goals training, research and extension; and, through the FP-UNA academic unit that is linked to Tourism through the Hospitality Management career, allowed the development of work related to the OETRPy, with the cooperation of teachers and students of the FP-UNA, in a multidisciplinary work.
