In recent years, traveling to the Cayman Islands from Latin America required a stopover in the US. The proximity of the Islands to the northern country added to the number of weekly connections made this option the most recommendable.
The new connection of Cayman Airways from Panama City offers Latin Americans a new way to get to paradise without having to make a stopover in the US. Cayman Airways announced the return of its flights to Panama, Central America, starting June 26 from 2023.
The company will operate between Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM), Grand Cayman and Panama Tocumen International Airport (PTY) with weekly flights on Mondays and Thursdays:
Itinerary
Grand Cayman – Panama flight KX 852 GCM 11:30 – 13:30 PTY (Monday and Thursday).
Panama – Grand Cayman flight KX 853 PTY 15:00 – 17:00 GCM (Monday and Thursday).
"I am very pleased that Cayman Airways will continue to play a key strategic role in the development of tourism and inward investment in the Cayman Islands. This new direct service will provide greater access to our beautiful islands for tourists from the Latin American market and open up new opportunities for trade and investment. It will also strengthen our economic ties with Panama and further solidify our reputation as a leading destination for business and leisure travel in the Caribbean," said the Minister of Tourism and Ports, Kenneth Bryan.
Cayman Airways Chairman and CEO Fabian Whorms said: “The relaunch of the airline's Panamanian route not only conveniently connects the Cayman Islands with Panama, but also with all of Latin America. This route will provide the perfect mix of leisure and business travel options for our clients in the Cayman Islands, as well as in Latin America.”
The flight's departure from Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM) in Grand Cayman on Monday, June 26, 2023, was celebrated with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials and industry partners. As the aircraft entered the runway for takeoff, the Cayman Islands Fire Service fired the customary water cannon at it to mark the occasion.
On the occasion of the departure of the flight from Panama to the Cayman Islands on the same day, a similar party was held at the Tocumen International Airport, attended by the delegation of the Cayman Islands, headed by the Minister of Tourism and Ports, the Hon. Kenneth Bryan. Likewise, the delegation of the Cayman Islands will attend a series of events and meetings in Panama with the tourism industry, tourism authorities, the media and special guests.
The Cayman Airways Panama route will operate throughout the year twice a week with service on Mondays and Thursdays. Tickets for travel on the Cayman/Panama route can be purchased through the Cayman Airways reservation center.
