As a first result, it is reported that incoming tourism had an increase of 46% compared to the same quarter of 2022, with 757,762 visitors entering our country.
In addition, this represents a historical record since it exceeds the income figure in the same quarter of 2017, where 722,123 people had entered.
Regarding income, an increase in spending of 7 percent can also be confirmed compared to 2022, reaching 278 million dollars.
As usual, Argentines and Brazilians were the most representative foreign tourists in the country, with an increase of 12.6% and 37.8%, respectively, compared to 2022.
Regarding the level of spending, in the case of Argentines, an increase of 12.4% can also be seen, but the same does not happen with the spending of Brazilian tourists, which fell by 6% this quarter.
Now with respect to the comparison of visitors in both countries, it continues to show growth compared to 2022.
Regarding outbound tourism, Uruguayans continued to travel abroad more frequently also in the second quarter of 2023. A total of 1,197,013 Uruguayans traveled abroad and spent US$ 412 million. These data are maintained due to the exchange situation with the Argentine territory, but at the same time they show economic stability in our country.
The Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, said that the recovery process continues and the data is encouraging since since 2021 the numbers of visitors as well as spending have been increasing.
He reiterated that the situation in Argentina influences not only Uruguay but all the countries in the region, however Brazil continues to be a growing market, something that this management has marked as a priority.
