Peru has once again been recognized at the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) 2023, known as the "Oscars of Tourism" for rewarding excellence in the world travel and tourism industry. This year, the country continues its triumphant rise on the international scene by being recognized with four awards at the South American level.

Three of these recognitions are for the entire country, such as "Best Culinary Destination in South America", "Best Cultural Destination in South America" and "Best Leading Destination in South America". Meanwhile, the fourth prize recognizes the sanctuary of Machupicchu, in the Cusco region, by being awarded as the "Best Tourist Attraction in South America".

The regional award ceremony was held on August 26 in Saint Lucia, a Caribbean island. For Angélica Matsuda, Executive President of PROMPERÚ, these awards favor the promotion of Peruvian tourism and cultural wealth internationally, and contribute to the economic reactivation of the sector.

“We thank the World Travel Awards for recognizing our natural wonders, our great history and our delicious cuisine. We will continue to be committed to excellence in the tourism sector and the promotion of cultural heritage so that Peru continues to be a world-class destination,” added Matsuda.

Peru, featured in these awards since 2009, has been working tirelessly to promote its natural beauty, its rich culture, and its outstanding gastronomy. This has resulted in numerous awards over the years: between 2012 and 2022, it has been voted "World's Best Culinary Destination" ten times and "South America's Best Culinary Destination" nine times. All this has consolidated its position as a culinary benchmark at a regional level.

The World Travel Awards is a globally recognized brand spanning various regional editions, including Africa, Asia, Australasia, Caribbean and Central America, Europe, Indian Ocean, Middle East, North and South America. At the end of each year, the great global gala is held, in which the winners of the regional editions participate.

Selection is through online public voting and the opinion of industry experts globally, which gives special meaning to these awards. Carrying the WTA winner's seal is a testament to quality and reputation in the tourism industry.
