The flight in question was AR1135 that arrived at the Ezeiza international airport this morning.

This flight is the company's initial test with this type of fuel, framed within its Sustainability Plan. The aircraft loaded 2% SAF type fuel for the purpose of performing performance analysis tests, which were positive.

According to what is projected, starting in 2027, this type of fuel will begin to be used on all Aerolíneas Argentinas flights with the aim of achieving neutrality by 2050, in accordance with the international agreements signed by the companies that are part of it. from IATA (International Air Transport Association)

“It is a flight that has a very special value because it means the effective implementation of an important part of our Sustainability Plan. All the measurement, analysis and monitoring work that we have been carrying out to comply with the goals and signed international agreements, together with our commitment to sustainable aviation, also traveled on this flight. There is a lot of work to do, but we are going to achieve a completely clean industry by 2050,” explained Pablo Ceriani, president of Aerolíneas Argentinas.

SAF fuels are chemically similar to fossil fuels but reduce net greenhouse gas emissions in their life cycle. To be considered SAF, a fuel must reduce these emissions between 50 and 60% and its raw material must be from soils and techniques that do not affect diversity. In addition, it must meet certain social, economic and environmental criteria and considerations, aimed at reducing the influence of aviation on the atmosphere.

Given their proven positive impact, fuels refined from non-fossil materials are considered a scarce good and highly required by the sector. In the coming years they will be a substantial tool to advance the decarbonization of the aviation industry.

It is worth remembering that last year, Aerolíneas Argentinas was awarded by the SkyTeam alliance within the framework of the “Sustainable Flight” initiative, for its innovations to reduce the carbon footprint. It was distinguished in the categories: “CO2 reduction on long-haul flights”, “Innovation in cargo” and “Most committed professionals”.
