Copa Airlines, a subsidiary of Copa Holdings, SA and member of the global airline network Star Alliance, joins the Ministry of Security of the Republic of Panama in promoting the Blue Heart Campaign against Human Trafficking, an initiative of the Office of the United Nations against Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which aims to prevent, sensitize and raise awareness among the population about this problem that affects millions of
people around the world.
“The first step to prevent is to inform ourselves. Therefore, at Copa Airlines we want to be facilitators of knowledge and transcend borders, bringing this message to all our passengers in the 81 destinations and 32 countries in which we
operate, through the Hub of the Americas®. As a responsible company we want to be agents for change, and we believe that, through tools such as information and awareness, we can take the message beyond our borders because it is a problem that affects the entire region,” mentioned Laura Plata, director of Copa Airlines Collaborator Experience.
“The fight against human trafficking is a common challenge that crosses borders, therefore raising awareness of this problem is the first step to combat it. We assume the challenge of prosecuting this crime as President of the National Commission against Human Trafficking. Human Trafficking and Copa Airlines' response to join the Blue Heart Campaign is an example of its Corporate Social Responsibility,” said Juan Manuel Pino F., Minister of Public Security of the Republic of Panama.
The airline, in an effort to combat this serious violation of human rights worldwide, placed a special sticker alluding to the campaign on five of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft with the aim of carrying a message that raises awareness among passengers. .
Copa Airlines has been a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact since October 24, 2001. This commitment translates into the incorporation of 10 universal principles related to human rights, work, the environment and the fight against corruption in its strategies and operations.
The Blue Heart Campaign aims to turn this symbol into an international emblem in the fight against human trafficking, an alarming crime that causes a profound traumatic impact on the physical and mental health of its victims.
