Viva Aerobus announces another route to the US: Torreón - San Antonio

Today, at a press conference, the Torreón City Council, Viva Aerobus and the Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA) announced a solid boost to the international air connectivity of the state of Coahuila with the announcement of the new Torreón – San Antonio route; service that, for the first time, connects these two cities with direct flights.

“We continue working to promote the economic development of Torreón and air connectivity is essential for this task. Therefore, we find in Viva a strategic ally to trigger greater commercial opportunities in our state at an international level. This new route will allow us to take an important step in our objective of generating more investments and positioning our city as a gateway within the framework of the relocation of companies -nearshoring- in the north of the country," said Román Alberto Cepeda, mayor. from Torreon.

Torreón – San Antonio (SAT) will begin operations on June 1, 2024 with two flights a week. According to Viva Aerobus, this new route is designed to become a catalyst for the state's great potential for attracting new businesses and investments, mainly through the opportunities offered by the nearshoring phenomenon and even to promote medical tourism. and student.

Additionally, passengers from San Antonio will be able to connect by land, from the Torreón International Airport, with surrounding destinations such as Cuéncame, Jiménez and Parral with discounts of up to 50% on their Omnibus de México bus tickets. This benefit results from Viva Aerobus' Viaja Ahorrando program, through which it offers its passengers comprehensive connectivity (air + land) so that they can reach their final destination with total convenience, taking advantage of the airline's alliances with bus companies.

“Connectivity to the United States is regaining strength and in Torreón is no exception. “We are very happy to continue announcing new flight options to key destinations that will benefit passengers,” commented Ricardo Dueñas, General Director of OMA.

With this new launch, Viva reiterates its commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of the state with greater access routes. In this sense, this 2023 the airline had already inaugurated a route in the entity, namely, last July the Torreón – Los Cabos service began to operate. As a result, the low-cost airline already offers four routes from this city, connecting it with Mexico City (AICM), Cancún, Los Cabos, and, very soon, with San Antonio.

This growth strategy in the city also has the firm support of travelers. In the period January - August 2023, Viva increased its number of passengers to/from Torreón by 14% compared to the same period last year, adding more than 123 thousand travelers.

“This is our first route to the United States from Coahuila and, with this service, we link and strengthen the strategic relationship between the cities of Torreón and San Antonio based on cultural, educational and commercial exchange. Now, these two important economic poles will be closer than ever, with an air bridge distinguished by low prices, new aircraft and point-to-point flights for the comfort and convenience of all passengers,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, general director of Viva Aerobus. .

Tickets offer fares starting at USD$59 for a single trip plus payment for the Airport Use Fee (TUA). Additionally, passengers will have the opportunity to fly in the youngest fleet in Mexico, and the fourth in North America, made up of 78 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft with an average age of 5.2 years.
