Quito Turismo attended IMEX América, the largest trade fair in North America for the meetings, events and travel industry in the US, from October 17 to 19, 2023. The expectation is that the capital of Ecuador will have more opportunities and establishes itself as a destination to develop these activities.
During the three days of the meeting, the Quito delegation held more than 30 meetings with international event organizers, travel agents, representatives of corporate companies seeking incentive trips, among other actors.
Every year, more than 10 thousand attendees, including buyers, meeting planners and suppliers from all sectors of the global meetings industry, participate in this meeting, which offers ideal spaces for destinations and companies to hold business and educational meetings. and development for the MICE industry in the world.
So far in 2023, 72 events have been held in Quito, 23 international, 23 national, 22 concerts and 4 sporting events. For the remainder of the year, at least 31 additional events are expected to be held.
It is important to note that the United States is the main source market for tourists to Quito. In 2022, more than 230 thousand tourists entered from that country, which represents 44% of the total received last year; and, in the first quarter of 2023, at least 85 thousand visitors arrived from the United States, which doubled the number received in 2022 (39,321 tourists).
