The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that on the occasion of the 2023 Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix, an average of 232 thousand tourists are expected to stay in hotel rooms in the metropolitan area of ​​the Valley of Mexico. during the days of the event, from Friday, October 27 to Sunday, October 29, of which 52 thousand will be foreigners.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) indicated that an average hotel occupancy rate of 78.8 percent is estimated in Mexico City alone, which is equivalent to 131,996 occupied rooms.

He pointed out that, in terms of lodging, an economic benefit of 286 million pesos is expected, that is, around 15.9 million dollars, and the benefit from tourist services is calculated at 3,138 million pesos, approximately 175 million. Dollars.

He reported that Mexico City has 645 lodging establishments, which add up to 53,409 rooms, a calculation based mainly on 5-star hotels, with 17,271 rooms; 4 stars, with 13,305; and 3 stars, with 10,654 rooms and in the lower category those with 2 and 1 star.

Torruco Marqués highlighted that during the days of the event, a capacity of 400 thousand spectators on average is expected, exceeding the 396 thousand that were registered in 2022; year in which it was placed as the fourth venue with the most fan attendance.

He stressed that the Mexican Formula 1 Grand Prix in Mexico City has been awarded on different occasions as the best of the year by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), above the rest of the championship venues, and is broadcast to more than 200 countries, receiving approximately 2,400 hours of coverage worldwide.

The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that the income from the media coverage of the race, which will take place from October 27 to 29, will be close to 7 billion pesos, as well as an additional 5.2 billion pesos for other concepts, such as ticketing and souvenir sales, according to data from the event organizers, these amounts represent 585 million dollars.

He emphasized that the economic impact of the 2023 Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix will be 15,624 million pesos, which represents around 873 million dollars, and contributes to an average of 8,700 jobs in Mexico City.

The head of Sectur pointed out that events such as the 2023 Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix contribute strongly to the promotion of Mexico internationally, and also represent a favorable economic impact by detonating the economic impact to benefit the local population, in compliance with the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to make tourism a tool of social reconciliation.
