As a first result, it is reported that the sum of the three quarters gives a total income of 2,769,734 people, exceeding the number of total income in 2022, which was 2,466,929.
Regarding incoming tourism, the figures indicate the entry of 792,734 visitors, exceeding the data for 2017 and becoming the highest in the last ten years.
Regarding expenses, it stood at 305 million dollars, above the income of the third quarter of 2022.
As usual, Argentines and Brazilians were the most representative foreign tourists in the country, in this case the quarter marks significant growth for Brazilians, reaching 150,007, being 22.8 percent higher compared to 2017, also becoming the best figure in the last ten years.
If we focus on Argentines, the income stands at 263,807 visitors, 19.77% higher than the same quarter of 2022.
Regarding the level of spending, in the case of Argentines it reached 98 million dollars in this quarter and the total expenditure of Brazilians reached 63 million dollars. Now regarding the comparison of visitors in both countries, growth continues to be shown compared to 2022.
Regarding outbound tourism, Uruguayans continued to travel abroad more frequently also in the third quarter of 2023. A total of 1,303,405 Uruguayans traveled abroad and spent US$ 562 million.
The Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, highlighted that these figures show the recovery of the sector, especially if we focus on having exceeded the total income for 2022, with three months left until the end of the year and where visitors from abroad are just beginning to arrive.
He reiterated that the situation in Argentina influences not only Uruguay but all countries in the region, however Brazil continues to be a growing market and for which this management has been working intensely.
In addition, another piece of data that also continues to indicate constant growth is domestic tourism, which positioned itself during the pandemic and has maintained outstanding numbers at the national level. In this quarter, the departments that received the most people from other parts of the country were Canelones with 603,213 people, Montevideo with 532,219 and Maldonado with 324,805 visitors.
