Jamaica Tourism meets with Tobago and IDB officials prior to community tourism study tour in Jamaica

With the island of Tobago working to develop its tourism product in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), a small delegation from the island has visited Jamaica on a study tour to glean best practices and learn key lessons from the community-based tourism model.

A team from the Ministry of Tourism, which was led by Chief Technical Director, David Dobson met with Tobago’s delegation, headed by Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation in the Tobago House of Assembly, Councillor Tashia Burris, on Monday. The meeting also included key stakeholders from the Tobago Tourism Agency, the Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association, the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The study tour commenced earlier yesterday in Treasure Beach, where the team will be spending the next few days conducting observations and gathering information on the area’s unique community tourism experience.
