Centuries of culinary art cooking combined with the best local ingredients and a long multicultural history have resulted in what is today the acclaimed Peruvian gastronomy in the world, which has been gaining international recognition.

UNESCO has just declared Peruvian ceviche as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a valuable recognition of the practices and meanings associated with the preparation and consumption of one of the most emblematic dishes of Peru and one of the most recognized globally.

This is in addition to the awards that Peru recently won at the World Travel Awards (WTA), awards known in the industry as the 'Oscars of Tourism', in which it was chosen for the eleventh time as the “Best Culinary Destination in the World.”

In addition, it won the “Best Cultural Destination in the World” award for the fifth time. A few days ago, the Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2023 were also held, which reward the best and most exclusive flavors of Latin America and Peru once again shone with its gastronomic pearls.

The Maido restaurant with “Nikkei” cuisine, visited by the most exquisite palates from around the planet who seek lively, creative and, above all, unique cuisine, was crowned for the fourth time as “The Best Restaurant in Latin America.”

During the famous event, eight more Peruvian restaurants shined in their ranking. Kjolle, by chef Pía León, ranked seventh, while Mayta, by chef Jaime Pesaque, ranked tenth, also standing out on the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world. Mérito, Osso, Mil, La Mar, Rafael and Cosme also
shone at the ceremony.

Most of these restaurants are located in Lima, the Peruvian capital, which was recognized as the best gastronomic city in Latin America, at the World Culinary Awards 2023, which took place in October.

All these recognitions of Peruvian cuisine have been supported by PROMPERÚ, an entity that leads the promotion of the country to the world, and that in its multiple efforts to make Peru known, works to increase knowledge of Peruvian cuisine, consolidating the positioning of this nation as a
world-class culinary destination.
