Baía do Sancho, in Fernando de Noronha, was voted the best beach in the world for the sixth time, according to tourists. The choice was made among travellers who used the TripAdvisor website to share experiences in 2023. Located in the Fernando de Noronha National Marine Park, the paradisiacal beach was also in first place in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

In addition to its sixth-time title among TripAdvisor users, Baía do Sancho was also considered the best beach of 2023 among travellers using the website Booking.com.

A unique sun and beach destination, Baía do Sancho offers a lot of ecotourism and sustainability among its natural beauty. According to the coordinator of Nature and Special Segments at Embratur, Leonardo Persi, it is increasingly important for tourist destinations to pay attention to responsible tourism, which has the preservation of the environment as one of its focuses.

“Baía do Sancho beach is located within the Fernando de Noronha National Park, which further reinforces the importance of environmental conservation in ecotourism destinations in Brazil. It is once again a recognition of management focused on responsible tourism, which involves promoting the ecotourist experience on this incredible beach. Embratur has a partnership with ICMBio in the international promotion of tourism, in the search for more international tourists committed to maintain this paradise as a reference for the world”, commented Persi.

According to the current ranking of the top ten best beaches in the world by TripAdvisor, after Baía do Sancho (Brazil) are: Eagle Beach, Palm/Eagle Beach (Aruba); Cable Beach, Broome (Australia); Reynisfjara Beach, Vik (Iceland); Grace Bay Beach, Providenciales (Turks and Caicos Islands); Praia da Falésia, Olhos de Água (Portugal); Radhanagar Beach, Havelock Island (India); Spiaggia dei Conigli, Lampedusa (Islands of Sicily, Italy); Varadero Beach, Varadero (Cuba) and Ka’anapali Beach, Maui (Hawaii).

Destination: Pernambuco

It is not just Baía do Sancho that attracts national and international tourists to Fernando de Noronha and the entire state of Pernambuco. According to the Embratur Data Portal, almost 50,000 foreign visitors visited the land of "frevo" from January to November 2023.

Pernambuco is in ninth place among the states which receive the most international tourists, according to the Agency's survey, and welcomed, during this period, more tourists from Uruguay, Portugal and the United States, respectively.

The northeastern state is on Embratur's radar this year. Marcelo Freixo, president of Embratur, highlighted that the presence at important international tourism fairs in Europe, especially in the first half of 2024, can boost the presence of foreign visitors there.

“In January, we will have an important event in Madrid (Spain), then we will have Portugal and Berlin (Germany). The potential that Recife, Olinda and the region, for example, have for culture, gastronomy, São João, sun and beach is impressive and they are certainly the right destinations for these visitors”, said Marcelo.
