Tianguis Turístico México announces the city of Tijuana, Baja California, as the venue for the 49th edition in 2025

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government, Miguel Torruco Marqués, in his capacity as president of the Selection Committee of the Mexico Tourist Tianguis, reported that the city of Tijuana, Baja California, was designated as the venue for the 49th edition of the Mexico Tourist Tianguis 2025, then that said Committee analyzed and evaluated the proposals presented by the 3 Federal entities interested in hosting the most important tourism fair in Latin America, Baja California, Nuevo León and Puebla.

He indicated that with the purpose of determining the headquarters of the Mexico 2025 Tourist Tianguis, the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) convened the private sector tourism organizations who are part of the Selection Committee and qualifying jury, in accordance with what was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on September 29, 2023.

The states of Baja California, Nuevo León and Puebla were registered in this vein.

The head of Sectur pointed out that once the proposals had been analyzed, they were put to an open vote, and the city of Tijuana, in the State of Baja California, was unanimously designated as the venue for the 49th edition of the Mexico 2025 Tourist Tianguis, under the following considerations: the city enjoys good air connectivity; and will give the opportunity to break the record for highest attendance by tour operators from California and other states of the American Union and Canada, which are the first and second source markets for international tourists to Mexico, respectively.

He specified that, in the first 11 months of 2023, 12 million 89 thousand tourists arrived from the United States, 3.3% more than what was registered in January-November 2022; and 2 million 114 thousand tourists arrived from Canada, 45.3% higher than the same period in 2022; respectively; and both markets together represent 72.8% of the total international tourists arriving in Mexico.

Torruco Marqués assured that the goal of the 49th edition of the Tianguis Turístico will be to break the record of previous editions in terms of the number of tour operators from the United States, Canada, Japan, China, South Korea and Singapore; with emphasis on European and South American travel agents.

The Selection Committee session took place this Monday, January 15 where, after verifying the quorum; The proposals received were analyzed, and the agreements reached were read and approved.

The head of Sectur participated in the Selection Committee, who in turn chairs it; the Undersecretary of Tourism, Humberto Hernández Haddad; the general director of Promotion and International Affairs and technical secretary of the Committee, Emmanuel Rey; the general director of the National Fund for Tourism Promotion (FONATUR), Lyndia Quiroz Zavala; the president of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (CONCANACO-SERVYTUR), Héctor Tejada Shaar; the executive director of the National Tourism Business Council (CNET), Lourdes Prieto Márquez; the president of the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels (AMHM), Miguel Ángel Fong González; the president of the National Chamber of Passenger and Tourism Transportation (CANAPAT), José Lucio Rodríguez González; the president of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (CANIRAC), Germán F. González Bernal; the president of the Mexican National Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV), Felipe Cervantes Vega; and the president of the National Association of Hotel Chains (ANCH), Luis E. Barrios Sánchez.

Secretary Torruco Marqués said that it was agreed to invite the head of the state executive, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, to receive the official appointment of the headquarters of the Mexico 2025 Tourist Tianguis, in the offices of the Ministry of Tourism.

Likewise, it was decided to invite the Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, Miguel Aguiñiga Rodríguez, to be part of the Organizing Committee of the Mexico 2025 Tourist Tianguis and added that next April, within the framework of the 48th edition that will take place in Acapulco, the change of post office will take place.
