SECTUR and COMIR advance agreements that will boost the meetings industry

Miguel Torruco Marqués, held a meeting with the Executive Committee of the Mexican Council of the Meetings Industry (Comir), headed by Michel Wohlmuth Rosenfeld, with the purpose of following up on the agreements and strategies that will promote this important segment of tourism, as it is a strong generator of economic benefits and jobs.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) indicated that the agency under his charge works on promotion and dissemination actions that show Mexico's potential to host meetings, conventions, congresses and events of international stature. In this sense, it was agreed to strengthen collaboration with Comir, for the exchange of audiovisual material and information.

In addition, the details were defined regarding the participation that Comir will have in the IMEX Frankfurt 2024 International Fair, in which Mexico will have a pavilion, which represents a relevant opportunity to jointly promote the flow of tourists and the attraction of events. from this important tourist market.

Also, options were raised for the organization to participate in the Mexico 2024 Tourism Tianguis that will take place in Acapulco, Guerrero; and in this way, the meetings segment is part of the reactivation of this important tourist destination.

As part of the agreements between Sectur and Comir, Torruco Marqués stated that with the purpose that the members of Comir, as well as businessmen and specialized service providers in the meetings industry, have timely and useful information that helps them in the decision making, there is a platform called “Regional Digitization of Tourist Vocational Places in Mexico”, as well as the DataTur system.

He specified that, through these technologies, the economic impact of tourism activity at the regional, state and municipal levels is known, representing a more precise measurement of what has been achieved so far. It was highlighted that last October, the Meetings Industry Barometer was released by Comir.

Likewise, he explained to the members of Comir the actions implemented in the current administration to consolidate Mexico as a world power, such as the Operation Knock on Doors program, Reunion with my Roots, and the promotion of large infrastructure works such as the Mayan Train, the expansion and remodeling of airports, among many others.

In this sense, he recalled the tourism policy implemented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to make tourism a tool of social reconciliation, through the benefits that this implies with the generation of jobs, earning of foreign currency and regional development of a fair and balanced way.

During the working meeting, it was agreed to work in a coordinated manner to seek schemes that promote the organization of events, strengthen ties with meeting industry suppliers, incorporate international exhibitors and, in addition, manage the generation and modification of laws. that generate stimuli that favor the development of meetings in our country.

Through a productive dialogue, the members of the Executive Committee of Comir, as well as the directors of the different areas of Sectur, exchanged ideas and proposals that will be reflected in the development of the meetings industry in Mexico.

For his part, Michel Wohlmuth Rosenfeld, appreciated the opportunity to follow up on the agreements being worked on with Sectur, and recognized that there is progress, which has allowed us to have concrete projects, and from there start to generate new actions.

Also participating in this meeting were the Undersecretary of Tourism, Humberto Hernández Haddad; the head of the Information and Monitoring Unit, Alejandro Aguilera Gómez; head of the Innovation and Tourism Policy Unit Mauricio Aarón Reyna Guerrero; the general director of Promotion and International Affairs, Emmanuel Rey; and the general director of Tourism Product Innovation of Sectur, Jorge Vázquez Valdés.
