The first edition of the “Ibero-American Smart Tourist Destinations Awards” arrives

Within the framework of FIDI - CURITIBA 2024, the delivery of an unprecedented distinction for Latin America will take place, carried out by the Ibero-American Network of Smart Tourist Destinations

For the first time, the “Ibero-American Smart Tourist Destinations Awards” will be presented, an initiative created by the Ibero-American Network of Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI), with the purpose of motivating, promoting and recognizing tourist destinations, companies, startups and institutions linked to tourism activity that exhibit projects that contribute to the transformation and development of DTIs.

This proposal, unprecedented for the region, seeks to make visible the achievements around the construction of a path aimed at achieving more competitive, systematic, sustainable and inclusive tourism management. In this way, the call is aimed at “Destinations”: public organizations and institutions that carry out or participate in projects in the field of tourism; and “Organizations and companies”: non-profit organizations and private companies, linked to tourism activity. Thus, the candidates who present the most sustainable, innovative and inclusive solutions in the different defined categories may be nominated for the Ibero-American DTI Award, marking the first initiative of this type for Latin America.

The awards ceremony will take place on March 17, within the framework of the International Fair for Smart Destinations (FIDI), which will take place in Curitiba, Brazil, on March 17, 18 and 19, 2024. Curitiba, Recently selected as the smartest city in the world within the framework of the Smart City Expo World Congress 2023 in Barcelona, ​​it will provide a framework for the FIDI, creating the ideal space for the delivery ceremony of the “DTI Ibero-American Awards”.

It is worth mentioning that the delivery of the DTI Award proposed by the “Knowledge Transfer and Good Practices Working Group” of the Ibero-American DTI Network will focus on distinguishing, promoting and incentivizing actions with positive impacts that can serve as a reference, inspiration. and replication by other destinations. In this way, FIDI will be the place where it is intended to generate the framework for the exchange of knowledge and information based on the creation of the aforementioned distinction.

The start of the call for applications will begin on January 16 and will end on February 16. At the time of the awards, distinctions will be awarded for the “Destination Projects” segment, and for the “Institutional Projects” segment. In this instance, the “Tourism Governance Award”, “Environmental Sustainability Award”, “Economic Sustainability and Competitiveness Award”, “Social Inclusion and Sustainability Award”, “Innovation Award”, “Tourism Accessibility Award”, “Technology and data management”, “Promotion and Marketing Award”, and the two “Ibero-American DTI Awards”. It should be noted that these awards are very important, because they are distinctions for comprehensive destinations that present 5 or more projects, which means that they are working on at least 5 axes of the 8 presented in the award. In addition, one of the Ibero-American DTI Awards will be selected by the jury, while the second will be put up for consideration for popular recognition, through a virtual voting process.
