The Undersecretariat of Tourism and the National Tourism Service presented the report that provides relevant information on tourist accommodation establishments in the 16 regions of the country. The analysis showed that the total occupancy rate for the 49 destinations considered in this study was 61.3%.

The destinations that obtained an occupancy rate (TO) above 70% were Punta Arenas and Strait of Magellan (86.4%); PN Torres del Paine and Puerto Natales (79.4%), General Carrera Lake Basin (76.9%), San Pedro de Atacama (76.5%), Olmué-La Campana (74.9%), Iquique ( 74.3%), Aysén-Coyhaique (73%), Antofagasta (72.2%) and urban Santiago (70.4%).

“These are good numbers because all the macrozones of our country had destinations with a high occupancy rate, that is, demand was not concentrated in one area or in a few destinations. The hotel occupancy rate shows that local economies were activated this first month of the year, because in addition to accommodation, the arrival of tourists translates into greater movement in restaurants, tourist experiences and crafts, that is, the productive chain is activated. that this activity generates,” said the Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Pardo Lagos.

During the first month of the year, 18 destinations had an occupancy rate higher than the national average of 61.3% and 34 destinations registered a rate higher than 50.0%. When comparing the occupancy rate at the national level with the same period of the previous year, the difference in 48 destinations in 2024 (61.4%) with 2023 (63.9%) was -2.5 percentage points.

For the national director of Sernatur, Cristóbal Benítez, “the particular figures for each destination and the 61.3% in the national rate demonstrate that tourism in our country is active and that local economies benefit from those who travel through Chile. For our part, we will continue working to continue seeing an increase in the occupancy of tourist accommodation, for example, through promotional campaigns, with which we have reinforced the potential of each region, so that the marketing chain of each place in the country is strengthened.”
