BELLA UNION CARNIVAL

The Departmental Municipality of Artigas and the League of Samba Schools of Bella Unión jointly organize the Bella Unión Carnival, described as “the cultural flow of three nations”, due to the daily coexistence in this triple border.

This carnival is characterized by the Brazilian samba entanglement sung in Spanish along with the handmade costumes, helmets and backrests of Corrientes influences. These marked traits acquired from neighboring countries have given Bella Unión a different carnival, which has acquired its own identity over the years.

José Artigas Avenue, in four blocks of its extension, became a “corsódrome” where canteens, chairs, stands, cabins and the box are also installed, with an approximate attendance of about 10 thousand people during the three nights, who come from Brazil, Argentina, domestic tourism and local population.

ARTICLE CARNIVAL

More than 5,000 artists participated in the show to the rhythm of samba. The parades began on February 10 and extend until this Tuesday, the 13th, inclusive. On the third day, the Academicians, Imperio del Ayuí, Barrio Rampla and Emperadores de la Zona Sur closed the party.

The proposal is performed to the beat of samba enredo, performed by percussionists, and addresses topics of cultural and social interest, previously approved by the jury. The samba schools represent the different neighborhoods of the city of Artigas and various cultural manifestations.

The festival is carried out by the Organizing Commission of the Artigas Carnival, the departmental mayor's office and the Federation of local Samba Schools.

This year the winning school was Academics who opened the parade this Tuesday along Lecueder Avenue.

Minister Tabaré Viera highlighted that it is a full-color carnival, with a very important audience, “a highly developed product that attracts and generates a lot of tourism” and said that although this is the main festival of the department, it is also mining tourism is a great attraction.
