Avianca was recognized with a “B” rating by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) due to its commitment to environmental transparency. The company is one of the few airlines in Latin America to report its management to the CDP, positioning itself as a leader in environmental issues in the region.

The CDP is a global nonprofit organization focused on compiling information on investors, companies, cities, states and regions that manage and report their environmental impact.

In 2023, the airline maintained its efforts and initiatives by reducing carbon emissions per passenger by 25% compared to its operation in 2019, of which 15% is due to the reconfiguration of aircraft and 10% to the fuel program, fleet standardization and new route configuration.

Also, through its Fuel Efficiency program, Avianca avoided the emission of 71,256 tons of CO2. On the other hand, through its alliance with Chooose and the voluntary compensation program for clients and collaborators, 695,000 tons of CO2 were compensated for the emissions generated in its operation, supporting climate management projects in Guatemala and Colombia.

Additionally, within the framework of its eco-efficiency strategy, during 2023, 50 women heads of households benefited through the recycling of 447 tons of waste corresponding to 44% of the waste generated in Bogotá, Medellín and Quito. This added to the reduction of the environmental impact on Galapagos Island thanks to the transportation of 11,843 kg of waste generated by the tourist operation.

“At Avianca we have been part of the history of aviation in Latin America for 104 years, which represents an enormous responsibility in terms of environmental impact. Thanks to our business model we have been able to go one step further by increasing the capacity of our planes so that more people fly, but also reducing the carbon footprint per passenger transported, added to the modernization of our fleet and work on eco-efficiency and economy. circular. “We are ready to continue contributing with more and better solutions that demonstrate that sustainability is today,” said Andrés Muñoz, environmental management manager at Avianca.

Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP, said:
“With more than 23,000 companies reporting through CDP this year, it is clear that sustainability and the data that supports it is not a 'nice to have', but an essential part of the long-term success in the business community. Disclosure works and today we should take a brief pause to celebrate the dedication to transparency and accountability shown by Avianca in reporting through CDP this year.”
