Sectur reports that the foreign exchange income from international visitors in January 2024 was 3,143 million dollars, this is 4.7% more compared to the same month in 2023; and also exceeding by 37.3% what was raised in January 2019, which was 2,289 million dollars.
Based on the results of the International Traveler Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), in January 2024, 3 million 638 thousand international tourists entered the country, which represents 3.6% more than what was captured in January 2023; and 4.5% more than arrivals in the same period of 2019.
The foreign currency income from international tourists in the first month of the year was 2,940 million dollars, which represents 4.6% more compared to the same period in 2023; also exceeding the foreign exchange of the same period of 2019 by 40.3%, which was 2,095 million dollars.
During January 2024, 2 million 157 thousand international tourists arrived in Mexico by air, this represents an increase of 3.4% more compared to the same month in 2023, also exceeding the international tourists by air captured in January 2023 by 23.3% more. 2019, which were one million 749 thousand tourists.
The income of foreign currency from international tourists by air between January 2024 had an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period in 2023, registering 2,722 million dollars, which also represents an increase of 44.9% compared to what was received in January 2019.
Regarding the average expenditure of international tourists by air during January 2024, this registered 1,261.7 dollars; with a growth of 2% compared to the same period in 2023, and exceeding by 17.5% the average expenditure of one thousand 74.2 dollars, registered in the first month of 2019.
In January 2024, one million 40 thousand cruise passengers arrived at the different ports of the country, exceeding by 8% the 963 thousand 144 cruise passengers who arrived in the same month of 2019.
In addition, the income of foreign currency from excursionists on cruises during the first month of the year amounted to 88.5 million dollars, which represents an increase of 33.1% more than what was captured in January 2019, when 66.5 million dollars were recorded.
It was reported that, in January 2024, the balance of international visitors was 2,372 million dollars, this is 2.5% more than what was registered in the same period of 2023; also exceeding the balance captured in the first month of 2019 by 74.4%.
