The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) announced that, during the month of January 2024, the arrival of 2 million 101 thousand international tourists by air to Mexico was recorded according to their nationality, which represents an increase of 2.6% compared to the same month of 2023, that is, 54,112 more tourists.
He reported that this also represents an increase of 23.1% compared to the arrivals registered in January 2019.
According to information from the Migration Policy Unit-Registration and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), the main countries in arrivals of international tourists by air to Mexico according to their nationality in January 2024 were the United States, Canada and Colombia, adding one million 643 thousand tourists, which represents an increase of 4.2% compared to the month of January 2023, also exceeding the level registered in the same month of 2019 by 34.2%.
The arrival of tourists from the United States was one million 186 thousand, with an increase of 2.9% more, compared to the same month of 2023; and an increase of 45.1% compared to the level registered in January 2019 with 817 thousand 315 tourists.
It was indicated that the arrival of Canadian tourists during January 2024 was 397,324 tourists, this is 10.8% higher than the same month in 2023, exceeding by 11% the 357,962 tourists captured in January 2019.
In the month of January 2024, the arrival of Colombians by air was 60,163, exceeding the arrivals of January 2019 by 22.7%, which were 49,038 tourists.
The Ministry of Tourism of Mexico noted that, during January 2024, the airports with the highest arrival of international tourists by air were Cancún, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta, which received one million 567 thousand international tourists, which is 2.1% higher. January 2023 arrivals; and 20.5% those of the first month of 2019.
It was stated that Cancún, Quintana Roo, received 979 thousand 375 international tourists, 4.1% more compared to January 2023, 356 thousand 72 tourists arrived at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), while Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco , 232,045 tourists arrived, 4.1% more compared to the month of January 2023.
The rest of the airports with international operations received 533,551 tourists, a 4.2% higher level compared to January 2023 and a market share of 25.4%.
