The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) announced that, during January and February 2024, the arrival of 4 million 259 thousand international tourists by air to Mexico was recorded according to their nationality, which represents an increase of 6.2% compared to the same period. from 2023, that is, 248,339 more tourists.
He reported that this also represents an increase of 24.9% compared to the arrivals registered in the first two months of 2019, when 3 million 410 thousand tourists arrived.
According to information from the Migration Policy Unit-Registration and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), the main countries in arrivals of international tourists by air to Mexico according to their nationality in January-February 2024 were the United States, Canada and Colombia, adding 3 million 357 thousand tourists, which represents an increase of 8.1% compared to the first two months of 2023, also exceeding the level registered in the same period of 2019 by 36.3%.
The arrival of tourists from the United States during January and February 2024 was 2 million 465 thousand, with an increase of 7.4% more, compared to the first two months of 2023; and an increase of 46.8% compared to the level registered in January-February 2019.
It was indicated that the arrival of Canadian tourists between January and February 2024 was 784,150 tourists, this is 13% higher than the same period in 2023, and exceeding by 11.8% the 701,292 tourists captured during the same period in 2019. .
In the first two months of 2024, the arrival of Colombian tourists by air was 107,856, exceeding the arrivals of January-February 2019 by 30.7%, which were 82,549 tourists.
The Ministry of Tourism indicated that, during January-February 2024, the airports with the highest arrival of international tourists by air were Cancún, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta, which together received 3 million 177 thousand international tourists, which is 5.6 more % arrivals of the first two months of 2023; and 22.1% arrivals from the same period in 2019.
The Cancun airport, Quintana Roo, received one million 985 thousand international tourists, 7.4% more compared to January-February 2023; 723,712 tourists arrived at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM); while, 469,055 tourists arrived in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, 8.9% more compared to the first two months of 2023.
The rest of the airports with international operations received one million 81 thousand tourists, which represents an increase of 8.1% compared to January-February 2023 and a market share of 25.4%.
