What are the most relevant issues for sustainable development in the tourism industry? How can companies and entrepreneurs act more responsibly? Where to look for inspiration to start this journey?

To set up the distribution of this edition, Gustavo Pinto, curator of the Transformation Theater, had the support of six organizations recognized in their areas of action and that support responsible tourism throughout Latin America. “We highlight the most pertinent topic for the allied organizations, considering the specialty of each one, and select other issues that require urgent attention from the sector,” explains the curator of the space and one of the largest specialists in responsible tourism in Brazil.

The participation of allied entities – in alphabetical order, Adventure Travel Trade; Colombian Association of Responsible Tourism (Colombia); Panamanian Sustainable Tourism Foundation (Panama); Vivejar Institute (Brazil); La Mano del Mono (Mexico) and World Indigenous Tourism Alliance (based in Chile) – guarantees a look at genuinely Latin American problems and solutions and gives examples of inclusion. "In addition, we will have speakers from Brazil, Argentina, Panama, Chile, Guatemala, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico, which makes this year's programming the most regional and diverse to date," Gustavo commemorates.

Among others, the topics addressed on the stage of this theater discuss the importance of personalization, automation and sustainability in the tourism industry, which will be addressed by Raquel Pazos, CEO of Ibiti Projeto, and Carlos Humberto, CEO and founder of Diáspora Back.

Another highlight is the participation of finalists for the Responsible Tourism Award in the panels and debates. “It is a great opportunity for the public to better understand their history, learn from them and connect with those who are making a difference in the sector,” highlights Bianca Pizzolito, head of WTM Latin America. The collaborating associations also participate in the selection, evaluation and delivery process of the Responsible Tourism Award, which takes place at the Explore Transformation theater starting at 6:00 p.m. on April 16, 2024.

The complete schedule of talks, panels and debates will be available shortly on the WTM Latin America website. The topics will also be available on Connect Me, a meeting scheduling platform, which allows you to plan the route of visits during the three days of the event. WTM Latin America takes place between April 15 and 17, at Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo. Free and mandatory to visit, regardless of the category of the visitor – trade, press, authorities and students, the accreditation is now available through the website, from pages in Portuguese, English or Spanish.
