Travel by Colombians abroad grew 13% during the first quarter of 2024

The growth of the tourism market is seen in all indices and outbound tourism has not been left behind. During the first quarter of 2024, 1,345,687 Colombians went abroad, which meant a 13% increase when compared to the same months of 2023.

These positive results glimpse opportunities for tourism. “The rebound in outbound tourism also benefits related industries, such as airlines, accommodation establishments and restaurants, among others,” explained Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.

And he added: “As more Colombians travel abroad, interest and demand for quality tourist services in Colombia increases, which in turn encourages the improvement of infrastructure and the offer of services that satisfy the needs of tourists, something that Travel Agencies have been working on, diversifying their portfolios” 

In fact, the United States, Spain, Panama and the Dominican Republic, concentrated 69% of the participation of the total Colombians who traveled abroad for tourism. , events and/or businesses. However, there were some destinations that reported the greatest growth, such as: Curacao, with 157%; Netherlands, with 81%, Aruba, with 63%; Peru with 47%; and Panama with 44%. 

“The country continues to prepare to increase international air connectivity and in this way provide more destination alternatives to Colombians. This growth reflects the hard work and collaboration of all of us who are part of this industry,” said the union leader.
