As a woman in the hospitality industry, I am inspired by the progress we have made in terms of inclusion and diversity, but I also recognize that we still face significant challenges on our path to gender equity. However, my experience has shown me that a commitment to the inclusion and professional development of women is not only a priority, but also a source of strength and growth for our company and the industry as a whole.

Studies show that gender diversity in senior management is associated with better financial performance and more effective decision making. In the hotel industry, the representation of women in leadership roles has traditionally been low, a study conducted by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) in 2023 revealed that in Mexico, only 12 percent of relevant positions in a company They are occupied by women. This reality reflects the so-called “glass ceiling”, an invisible barrier for women to occupy management and leadership positions.

On the other hand, we are witnessing a positive change in this trend, since according to the Hotel Association of Cancún, Puerto Morelos & Isla Mujeres (AHCPM&IM), the hospitality industry is the second activity that employs the most women in Mexico.

Hyatt has committed to doubling the representation of women and people of color in leadership roles by 2025, an ambitious goal that reflects our commitment to equal opportunity and diversity at all levels of the organization. This approach is not only ethical, but also strategic. I have personally experienced the positive impact of this commitment in my own career. Since joining, I have had the opportunity to take on new challenges and advance my professional development in ways I never imagined. The inclusive culture has been instrumental in my growth, providing me with support and opportunities to learn and grow in an environment that values my contribution as a female leader.

Despite the progress made, there is still much to be done to ensure that all women have equal opportunities in the hospitality industry. It is crucial that we continue to challenge gender stereotypes and remove barriers that prevent women from advancing into leadership roles. This requires a collective commitment from companies, leaders and professionals of all genders.

I maintain an optimistic stance towards the future of women in the hospitality industry. I firmly believe in the power of mentoring, continuing education, and mutual empowerment to drive change and create an environment where all women can reach their full professional potential. By making ethical and values-based decisions, we can build a more inclusive and equitable future for generations to come.
