The report, which combines research and insights from 170 meeting venue operators around the world, and delivered in conjunction with strategic research partner, Development Counselors International (DCI ), offers a comprehensive analysis of the industry and forecasts future trends. in everything from the adoption of AI. to the requirements of Generation Z and changes in food and beverage preferences. This year's report is additionally funded by Aramark Destinations, Pyramid Global Hospitality , Encore and Flik Hospitality Group & Rapport .

Included in the report was the finding that industry-wide adoption of AI remains relatively low and is primarily limited to a few specific areas (namely marketing, data analytics, and revenue management). However, a significant proportion of venues (around 35%) are considering expanding their use of AI to include menu planning, food waste management, and guest services and food ordering.

The report also found that places are adapting to accommodate differences in the behavior of the next generation. Some are incorporating more breaks and personal time into their events, while others are opting for smaller group settings to encourage more individualized participation. More than 70% of places now encourage connection with the natural world.

Food and drink preferences continue to evolve, with just under half of venues noticing a decline in alcohol consumption. Additionally, venues are facing an increase in complex and specific dietary requests.

The spaces continue to prioritize sustainability. Many places have implemented programs to reduce food waste (83%) and eliminate single-use plastics (88%). In addition, three quarters of sites now have environmental or sustainability certification.

Mark Cooper, CEO of IACC, said: “This year’s research reaffirms how live meetings are evolving and venues are adapting to the type of experiences business event organizers expect for their attendees. “Social responsibility is at the heart of many of these trends and the report clearly shows that places are keeping pace with the development of facilities and services.”

Additionally, IACC Global President Nancy Lindemer said: “The findings of IACC's annual Meeting Room of the Future report continue to be a beacon for the small meetings industry. The importance of experience creation and networking and the need to combine nature and technology is the guide for how our clients want to meet and the expectations that we, as an industry, must be prepared to meet.

“The changes in food and beverage over the years scream flexibility and inclusivity. Meeting the diverse needs of all guests in a sustainable and thoughtful way, while being affordable and, above all, delicious, is a challenge that IACC properties are creatively meeting.”
