Hilton's Travel with Purpose Report outlines the hospitality leader's progress toward its Travel with Purpose environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy to drive responsible travel globally. Travel with Purpose details Hilton's 2030 energy, water and waste reduction goals, as well as its community commitment and governance goals. Through carbon reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative and social impact objectives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Hilton is working to reduce its emissions and create engines of opportunity while operating responsibly, integrity and transparency.
Hilton's Travel with Purpose strategy is led by 469,000 team members who are working around the world to drive responsible travel across its business, operations, supply chain and among the communities where it operates. This year, Hilton has made the following progress (based on 2008):
Achieved a 45.1% reduction in carbon emissions intensity among its managed hotels and a 25.1% reduction in carbon emissions intensity among its franchise hotels.
Reduced its water use intensity at its managed hotels by 26.5%.
Decreased landfill waste intensity at its managed hotels by 63.7%, exceeding its initial 50% reduction goal by 2030.
Created more than 860,000 learning and professional growth opportunities in 2023, contributing to more than 1.5 million opportunities from 2022.
Contributed more than 377,000 volunteer hours in communities around the world, with a total of more than 2.5 million volunteer hours reported since 2017.
Through Hilton's Team Member Assistance Fund, more than $865,000 was distributed to a record number of Hilton team members affected by disasters, crises and personal hardships.
The publication of the Travel with Purpose 2023 report coincides with the publication of the latest Hilton Global Foundation Impact Report. Hilton Global Foundation, works in partnership with the hospitality leader to drive progress toward its Travel with Purpose 2030 goals.
Last year, the Hilton Global Foundation made significant strides to create a positive impact in communities around the world. The Hilton Global Foundation Impact Report outlines the significant social and environmental impact generated from the more than $4.4 million of resources donated in 2022. These grants were awarded to organizations that are improving, restoring or protecting local environments, supporting economic development and professional of vulnerable and underrepresented groups, and strengthening the resilience of communities around the world.
Since 2019, Hilton Global Foundation has awarded more than $12 million in aid, donated more than 18 million pounds of food to communities in need, served more than 10 million meals, recycled more than 28 million pounds of material and has restored more than 247,000 hectares of land.
