Did you know that to build a large airplane, 340,000 parts from about 400 suppliers are used? Airplanes are complex machines, in which the most significant elements, such as the engine and wing sections, can include hundreds of thousands of individual parts. Taking into account the importance of this issue for operational efficiency and safety, the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) organizes the largest forum in the region on the subject. The event promotes nearly 2,000 mini-meetings with the participation of nearly 500 executives from 240 supplier companies, as well as 132 representatives from 34 different airline companies.

From June 3 to 5, Rio de Janeiro will host the most popular event in the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and technical purchasing sector in Latin America and the Caribbean: the ALTA CCMA & MRO 2024 conference. The event is expected to generate an economic impact for the city estimated at more than $1 million, encompassing direct, indirect and catalyzed effects.

“ALTA CCMA & MRO is a very important conference for aviation in Latin America and the Caribbean and is always a great opportunity to create relevant business relationships for companies in the aviation market, to do business that generates efficiency and opportunities for the region,” says Santiago Valencia, MRO Director of ALTA and president of the event.

During the three-day event, the program also includes talks by experts from the aeronautical sector, who will debate solutions to gain efficiency and maximize the development of the sector, as well as the social and economic impact on societies. «It is an opportunity to foster relationships and drive transactions. We provide a unique format by holding more than 2,000 meetings between airlines and suppliers, in addition to generating an academic agenda that keeps the sector up to date with the latest advances," says the CEO and executive director of ALTA, José Ricardo Botelho.

In 2023, almost 110 million passengers were transported in Brazil's domestic and international markets. With 768 aircraft, the country has the largest fleet in LAC and is an impressive market with vast untapped potential.

Highlights of the agenda

José Ricardo Botelho and Santiago Valencia Rodríguez will inaugurate the event, which has a tradition of more than 60 years. One of the highlights is the presentation by Carlos Garcia, partner of Oliver Wyman, with the talk “Oliver Wyman's Overview of MRO in Latin America.”

Another key moment on the agenda is the panel “Girls with Goals: Increasing the participation of women in aeronautical maintenance in Latin America”, with the interventions of Ana María Persiani (ALTA), Michelle Linale (Thales), Verónica Klein (Safran Cabin) and Santiago Valencia (ALTA).

Subsequently, Jeff Nixon (Proponent), Fernando Miwa (GOL) and Wilmer López (AJW Group) will discuss the challenges and innovative solutions in the supply chain. The day will close with the panel “MRO in Brazil: challenges and opportunities”, presented by Luiz Froes (GE Aerospace), followed by a gala dinner and the presentation of the CCMA & MRO awards to the best suppliers.
