The Royal Cultural Center of San Carlos is today the new landmark of Uruguay. It is a state-of-the-art multifunctional space that, based on the work of the inhabitants and departmental government of Colonia for many years, made the rehabilitation and reuse of the Real de San Carlos Bullring a reality, converted into a multipurpose space of Last generation.

Cultural Center of regional reference:

It has flexible and dynamic spaces intended for different alternatives: live shows, conferences, congresses, fairs, festivals, meetings, launches, parades and interventions.

National historic monument:

A complex with high heritage value. A careful rehabilitation that harmoniously dialogues with the pre-existing building, immersed in a city declared a Historical Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Tourist Spot par excellence:
A pole of tourist interest expanding the offer of historical, heritage, cultural and recreational activities in the city of Colonia. The Cultural Center brings together museums, exhibitions, media libraries, recreational and outdoor leisure spaces, as well as gastronomic proposals.

History:

Nicolás Mihánovich's tourist complex was inaugurated in 1910 and made the Real de San Carlos a jewel of international reach for the city, with its pediment, its own dock and power plant, Bullring and
casino hotel. They were times of economic prosperity in Europe and the region.

The Bullring was built with a capacity of 10,000 spectators and hosted bullfights with the best bullfighters from Spain. A show with as resounding success as it is ephemeral.

In 1912, practices that involved bullfighting against animals were prohibited and from then on the long decline of the only Bullring in the region began.

Today, the Cultural Center has various attractions, spaces and activities:

- Bullfighting Museum
- Art Gallery
- Market of local producers
- Bookstore and cafeteria
- Gastronomic proposals
- Winery with Colonia wineries
- Gift shop
- Multi-purpose room
