With the aim of continuing to enhance the experience of its travelers, the Punta del Este Airport incorporated biometric gateways with state-of-the-art technology, which make the immigration process more agile, easier and safer.

Through this modern border control system, which uses artificial intelligence and self-service technologies, Punta del Este Airport thus offers a new service that allows its passengers to live an automated experience at the checkpoints.

The system includes the installation of two electronic gateways to automate the security control and validation of boarding passes, and the incorporation of two ABC (Automated Border Control) biometric immigration gateways in the Arrivals area and one in the Departures area.

“Technology is a fundamental ally to enhance the services we offer to our passengers, giving them the possibility of living a superior experience, increasingly comfortable and agile, while guaranteeing the highest levels of safety,” said Alejandro Rivero, manager general of the Punta del Este Airport.

The gateways are now operational and available for all eligible passengers arriving or departing the country through the air terminal. In this sense, Rivero highlighted the work carried out together with the National Directorate of Migration and the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure to make this milestone possible and carry out the necessary integrations for the start-up.

This innovative service is also used at the Carrasco Airport, where since its installation it has allowed the time taken by the immigration process to be reduced to an average of just 15 seconds. Currently, in the country's main air terminal, more than 90% of immigration procedures take less than a minute, which has a direct impact on the passenger experience.

The incorporation of the biometric gateways, carried out together with the Uruguayan company EC Solutions within the framework of the commitments assumed by the company in the concession contract, is added to other actions implemented by Aeropuertos Uruguay with the purpose of continuing to transform the facilities in Laguna del Sauce, such as the complete renovation of the VIP Room, where the furniture was changed and its distribution was modified to make each space as comfortable as it was practical.
