LATAM Airlines Peru and Jamaica announce the resumption of the Lima - Montego Bay route

LATAM Airlines Peru is resuming the direct international route from Lima, Peru, to Montego Bay, Jamaica

LATAM Airlines Peru and Jamaica are pleased to announce the resumption of the Lima - Montego Bay route, subject to government approval, a direct operation that will begin on December 1, 2024. This direct flight to Montego Bay, located northwest of Jamaica , will last just under 5 hours and will be operated with Airbus A319/A320 aircraft. The route is expected to reach 45,000 passengers in its first year of operation.

"We are delighted with the resumption of the LATAM Airlines route, which reaffirms our commitment to improving connectivity and tourism growth in this key region. This initiative marks a pivotal moment for Jamaica as we expand our presence in the Latin market -American, which will generate an increase in tourist arrivals and revenue for Jamaica's economy," said Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica's Minister of Tourism.

For his part, Manuel van Oordt, CEO of LATAM Airlines Peru, said: "This year, as LATAM Peru, we celebrate 25 years of operation in the country. Being able to resume a route with broad tourist projection is for us a way of continuing to invest in development from the country".

Donovan White, Director of Tourism at the Jamaica Tourist Board, said: “This new flight will open the doors for more Latin American travelers to experience Jamaica's culture, nature and warm hospitality. We are committed to providing an enriching travel experience, ensuring that each visitor enjoys the true essence of our island’s warmth and hospitality.” 

Jamaica is known for its rich array of attractions and activities to suit all tastes. Visitors can explore the stunning Dunn`s River Falls, hike the Blue Mountain trails, snorkel in the crystal clear waters of Negril or enjoy Kingston's vibrant nightlife and music scene. Additionally, Jamaica offers unique cultural experiences such as visiting museums and historic sites, as well as the opportunity to taste
delicious local cuisine, famous for its Jerk chicken and Blue Mountain coffee.

Investment in Jamaica's tourism industry has reached new levels, with existing hotel companies expanding their participation and new investors ready to build new properties. “These developments signify expansion and demonstrate our commitment to delivering world-class hospitality experiences to visitors from around the world,” Minister Bartlett added.

Construction start dates or development plans are also on hold for thousands of additional rooms. Princess Resorts will add an additional 1,000 rooms to complement its in-destination offerings; Grand Palladium Lucea to expand with another 1,000 rooms and further west, the Wyndham brand will re-emerge in Jamaica with the construction of Viva Wyndham, with just under 1,000 rooms north of Negril; We are already well advanced with the 1,100 rooms at the Hard Rock in Montego Bay; Secrets is expanding with more than 100 new suites, and a major new 1,285-room resort, the name of which has not yet been revealed, is also slated for the island's tourism capital.

Tourism development continues in Trelawny with major hotel brands such as Harmony Cove, Planet Hollywood and the expansion of the H10 resort. Bahia Principe in St. Ann is undertaking a multi-faceted expansion project that includes villas, condominiums, hotel rooms, a PGA-certified golf course, a fishing village and housing for tourism workers, using a largely environmentally sustainable development approach , while Secrets continues to expand now with a 700-room hotel in St. Ann.

This year, LATAM Peru celebrates 25 years of operation in the country. Currently, the national airline operates 18 domestic routes and 32 routes to international destinations, to which the Montego Bay (Jamaica) operation will be added, as well as flights to Rosário (Argentina) and Curitiba (Brazil) for the last months of this year.
