More than 9 million trips are projected for the winter season in Chile

The projections of the Undersecretariat of Tourism and Sernatur estimate the increase in trips at 10.2% compared to the same season last year and 36.2% compared to 2019. The regions that will receive the most tourists in this period would be : Valparaíso (18.9%), Metropolitana (16.9%) and O'Higgins (8.7%)

Positive numbers for national tourism were delivered this morning by the Undersecretariat of Tourism and Sernatur in the Metropolitan Park when referring to the projections for the winter season in Chile, which includes trips with overnight stays that would take place between Saturday, June 1 and Wednesday. July 31, 2024.

It is estimated that more than 9 million trips (9,478,589) will be made during the winter season, which represents an increase of 10.2% compared to the same season in 2023 and 36.2% more than in 2019. The three main regions that will receive the most tourists would be Valparaíso (18.9%), Metropolitana (16.9%) and O'Higgins (8.7%); while where the most travelers will depart from would be Metropolitana (38.9%), Biobío (9.6%) and Valparaíso (9.3%).

At the national level, the communes of Viña del Mar (2.6%), La Serena (1.66%) and Santiago (1.66%) are the areas that are projected to receive the most visitors. Meanwhile, Puente Alto (2.89%), Maipú (2.85%) and Las Condes (2.67%) are the communes from where the most Chileans would leave during the season.

The Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Pardo commented that “our projections are positive for the winter period with 10.2% more overnight stays, almost 9 million 500 thousand trips with accommodation for the entire winter period and more than 500 thousand new trips in Winter Break. We also know that the regions of O'Higgins, Valparaíso and Metropolitana are the ones that will receive the most tourists, but they are also the most emissive along with Biobío. The national director of Sernatur, Cristóbal Benítez, added that “we invite you to prefer our country during this winter season, to discover the corners of Chile and enjoy the unmissable panoramas throughout the territory by visiting Chileestuyo.cl where, in addition, you can find the catalog of experiences with offers available for all tastes and preferences. For this winter season we have good travel projections, which implies a good opportunity to generate a positive impact on local economies.”

Meanwhile, Carlos Ponce, director of the Metropolitan Park, explained that “during these winter holidays, we invite you to find your favorite panorama in Parquemet and its Network of Urban Parks. We have panoramas for everyone! Tours along different pedestrian paths in the park, the favorite routes of cyclists and, for those looking to connect with nature or have a space for contemplation, they can visit the Japanese or Mapulemu gardens. We must also remember that the cable car, the funicular and the ecological buses will operate during all these winter holidays, from 10 to 7 in the afternoon and have universal accessibility.”
