Uruguay presented the second stage of the Smart Tourism Observatory

The ceremony took place this Friday, June 28, in the Arredondo Room of the Ministry of Tourism, and was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Eduardo Sanguinetti, the Undersecretary of Tourism, Remo Monzeglio, the President of ANTEL, Annabella Suburú, the General Manager of HG, Sylvia González, the Head of the Research and Statistics Division of the Ministry of Tourism, Felipe Gómez, the General Director of the Secretariat, Ignacio Curbelo, the President of HG, Juan Piaggio and the Directors of HG, Margarita Krause.

The Minister of Tourism, Eduardo Sanguinetti, highlighted the work of the ministry officials and the importance of their work for the development of the observatory and was optimistic about its growth, “because technology is here, it is here to stay and it is absolutely essential to generate public policies that are referred in this case to what is tourism, having valid information and training, knowing what are the destinations, concerns, preferences of the different tourists, whether national or international,” he said. Regarding the role of his organization, the official said that “we have the obligation to develop intelligent, sustainable, sustainable tourism and for that it is essential to have and count on the support of tools like these and with the team that we have, we will continue to strengthen it with the interrelation that is being generated.”

ANTEL President Annabella Suburú praised the joint work of the two organizations: “This product is a sign that when two or more organizations join together and each one shows the best of itself, puts the best of its specialties, results are achieved that will benefit not only the Ministry of Tourism, but many more organizations and tourism operators.” She also referred to “technology at the service of the people, which will ultimately lead to the beneficiaries making better decisions, with better tourism offers and which are ultimately benefits for the country.”

HG General Manager, Sylvia González, commented that “the mission of HG is to accelerate the delivery capacity of the ministry when it is using and integrating technology, this work methodology is called agile integration and co-participation methodologies, with multidisciplinary teams.” In addition, she emphasized the teamwork between the actors of both organizations “where we seek to have periodic information in real time, analytical, secure, and that is defined and integrated.”

The head of the Research and Statistics Division of the Ministry of Tourism, Felipe Gómez, stressed that “the observatory has implemented new features to improve analysis and communication in the tourism sector. These improvements include interactive visualizations, easy access to information for various users, regular updates and the development of more efficient indicators, with the aim of simplifying access to valuable information and facilitating informed decision-making for both the public and private sectors.”

Various stakeholders in the tourism sector, including companies, researchers and officials, can easily access relevant information through the MINTUR institutional website. The platform adapts to different devices and specific needs.

Up-to-date and accurate data is provided, which is essential for strategic analysis and informed decision-making in the tourism sector.

Efficient Indicators:
More precise and efficient indicators have been developed from various sources, designed to measure tourism performance and facilitate strategic and operational decisions in the sector.

These improvements significantly strengthen the capacity of the Uruguayan tourism industry to make informed and strategic decisions, empowering it with valuable information for its sustainable development.

The Smart Tourism Observatory is consolidating itself as an essential tool for the advancement and prosperity of tourism in Uruguay, promoting responsible and sustainable growth.
