The Community of Madrid, a leading tourist destination for the United States with almost one million visitors from this country in 2023

In the first four months of 2024, American tourists exceed 300,000, an increase of 33% compared to the previous year

The Community of Madrid has become a preferred tourist destination for American citizens, as reflected in the data for 2023. Thus, last year almost a million Americans visited Madrid soil, 26.7% more than in 2022. Likewise, in the first four months of 2024, the number of American tourists exceeded 300,000, an increase of 33%.

This was highlighted by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mariano de Paco Serrano, after the meeting he held in Miami with tour operators and local businessmen “to strengthen ties and promote Madrid”, he said.

This meeting, which also included the participation of Iberia, is part of a promotional and marketing campaign in American markets that is being carried out this year. The project includes actions on social networks and digital marketing, as well as advertising plans in the countries of origin.

Another of the most relevant figures that De Paco Serrano has revealed is that the total expenditure of travellers of this nationality in the region amounted to more than 2,000 million euros last year, 43.1% more than the
previous year. As for the average amount per trip, this exceeds 2,200 euros, 8.2% more than in 2022, with stays reaching almost seven days on average.

Likewise, citizens from New York are the most numerous, followed by those from Miami, 300,000 in 2023.

“The Community of Madrid offers great attractions for visitors. From its rich gastronomy, with 27 Michelin-starred restaurants; to the sites recognised by UNESCO as World Heritage sites such as the Landscape of Light
, Alcalá de Henares, Aranjuez and the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial), or the castles, churches and monasteries of its 11 Villas. We cannot forget the Paseo del Prado with the highest concentration of museums, gardens and monuments in the entire continent, its more than 100 art galleries and galleries, 289 performing arts centres and 90 concert halls,” the minister stressed.
