Costa Rica was chosen as the host country for the ninth edition of the Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit , which will take place from May 19 to 21, 2025. This will be the first time since its creation eight years ago that this event will be held outside of Mexico.
“I am extremely pleased and grateful to know that Costa Rica will officially host this meeting on social tourism and sustainability. It is undoubtedly a challenge that we will gladly take on with open arms to welcome all those who visit us,” said William Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica.
The minister thanked the world leadership and Costa Rica’s ongoing efforts to establish sustainability as the cross-cutting axis of our tourism model, focused on social, environmental and economic aspects, for this recognition.
“By hosting this event with international significance, we will gain knowledge and new trends to contribute to the applied expansion of the concept of sustainability in these increasingly challenging times, generating more inclusive tourism for all people,” concluded Rodríguez.
The announcement was made at the end of last week's event in the city of León, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, which was attended by businesspeople and experts from more than 15 countries, making it the main meeting on social and sustainable tourism in all of Latin America.
The central theme of this year's activity was "Results that impact, commitments that inspire." Costa Rica participated with two prominent speakers, Alberto López, general manager of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), with the presentation "Results that impact: regional solutions to global challenges ." Likewise, Gustavo Alvarado, director of Tourism Management, gave the talk "Sustainable and social tourism in Costa Rica . "
Both demonstrated Costa Rica's commitment and its tangible actions in the field of sustainable tourism as a fundamental axis of its model, as well as the positive impact on communities and tourism companies.
An international showcase for social and sustainable tourism
The Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit is the first forum of its kind, which proposes the development of people and their habitat through tourism and the proposal of sustainable, inclusive and socially responsible solutions.
All previous editions were held in Mexico, but next year it will be held for the first time in a different country, a leader in these topics. According to the organizers, the ninth edition will take place at the Costa Rica Convention Center in May 2025 and will include talks and workshops with leading exponents on the subject.
This meeting is open to companies in the tourism sector in Latin America and other latitudes, as well as industry suppliers.
With this recognition and the officialization of the venue, Costa Rica will continue to strengthen its leadership role as a global sustainable tourism destination. From the beginning of 2024 and for the next four years, our country has the presidency of the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism).
