Starting in August, Azul, the largest airline in terms of daily flights and cities served in Brazil, will have two more flights from the Canoas air base in Rio Grande do Sul. With the expansion, the company will go from 93 monthly flights to 155, becoming the company with the highest frequency to the city in Rio Grande do Sul.
In addition to the reinforcement of the existing route to Viracopos, in Campinas, one of the new flights will connect the Canoas air base with Guarulhos International Airport. The departure from Canoas will be at 10:20 p.m., arriving in Guarulhos at 12:05 a.m. The return flight will take off at 1:05 a.m. and land in Canoas at 3:00 a.m. The second flight will take off from Viracopos airport at 7:35 p.m., landing in Canoas at 9:20 p.m. The return flight will take off at 4:00 a.m., arriving in Campinas at 5:45 a.m. Both flights will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft, with capacity for 174 passengers.
For Vitor Silva, Azul's general manager of Planning and Strategy, the expansion is another step towards the state's recovery. "It is a significant and very important increase in our strategy of connecting Rio Grande do Sul, after the closure of Salgado Filho airport, to the rest of the country, including flights to several cities in the interior of the state."
It is important to note that, since July 15, the departure and arrival point for flights has been at Salgado Filho Airport in Porto Alegre, from where flights are transferred by land. Azul advises customers to arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure time, as check-in will close 90 minutes before flight departure. Passengers should not go directly to the airport base.
