Sandals Resorts International (SRI) today announces the acceleration of its expansion plans for the family-friendly Beaches Resorts brand with the development of Beaches Exuma, its fourth resort and the first Beaches resort in The Bahamas.
To make this new resort possible and as part of a coordinated growth plan across the Sandals and Beaches Resorts portfolio, Sandals Emerald Bay will close its doors on August 15, 2024 and undergo a
transformation anticipated to begin in the fall of 2024, preparing to reopen as the new
Beaches Exuma.
“Exuma was created for families and with over 6,000 feet of shoreline, the new Beaches Exuma will be a gateway to discovering the unparalleled beauty of this corner of the Bahamas,” said Adam Stewart, CEO of Sandals Resorts International. “Essential to every great family vacation is creating memories that are so magical they last a lifetime. For more than two decades, I have treasured every moment I have spent there with my family, along the vibrant shores of Exuma, where my own children have grown up among one of nature’s most inspiring playgrounds, from water pigs, majestic sea turtles, incredible sandbars and so much more,” added Adam Stewart.
Originally developed as a family-oriented resort when it opened more than two decades ago, the existing Sandals property maintains an ideal layout of beaches, pools and play areas, as well as family-oriented amenities across its expansive oceanfront acreage.
Exuma is also a natural wonder renowned for its ecosystems and marine life, crystal-clear waters and beaches that offer long stretches of white sand to explore. This transformation will bring with it the full range of experiences and amenities that families have come to love at Beaches Resorts.
The new Beaches Exuma will feature an enhanced room configuration of multi-bedroom villas and suites, and connecting rooms, plus enhancements to its 12 restaurants and culinary offerings, the development of an all-new Kids Camp for children, a water play platform and much more, while continuing to embrace opportunities for families to experience all-new adventures.
When it opens, the new Beaches Exuma will offer a world-class experience while retaining beloved guest amenities such as the fully-equipped Red Lane® Spa and access to the Greg Norman-designed 18-hole Emerald Bay Golf Course.
The Bahamas’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Aviation, the Honourable I. Chester Cooper, welcomed the expansion and expressed his enthusiasm for the resort’s redevelopment.
“For many years, Sandals has been a trusted partner of the Bahamas,” said Cooper, who is also originally from Exuma and is the region’s parliamentary representative.
“As we saw with the redevelopment of Sandals Royal Bahamian in New Providence almost three years ago, when a chain invests in a property, it is destined to thrive. We will miss Sandals Emerald Bay, but we welcome Beaches Exuma, which will be a more developed venture that will serve more visitors and employ more Bahamians. Exuma is my home and I will be there every step of the way,” added Mr. Cooper.
SANDALS AND BEACHES RESORTS
This rebranding is part of a strategic plan that will allow the Sandals Resorts International organization to significantly expand its presence throughout the Caribbean, including the recent addition of Sandals Dunn's River in Jamaica, Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Sandals Royal Curaçao to its family of resorts. These three new Sandals Resorts, along with expansions and enhancements to several other resorts throughout the Caribbean, offer a wide variety of new opportunities to experience the brand's true all-inclusive hospitality. To all of our valued guests with reservations at Sandals Emerald Bay that will be affected, we are reaching out to provide a variety of options to rebook at another Sandals Resorts destination, along with several special benefits.
