“We are excited and proud to be part of the Flower Fair celebrations again as partners and to be working alongside allies such as ProColombia, the Bureau of Medellín and Asocolflores to make this edition memorable. At Avianca, we have been connecting Medellín for decades and today, in addition to 26 direct routes and more than 450 weekly flights, we have one of the strongest flower export operations in the region with Avianca Cargo. In addition, there are already more than 1,000 collaborators of our team who are based here and who give their all every day to guarantee that the people of Antioquia are more and better connected and that more and more local and international tourists get to know the beauty of Medellín,” said David Alemán, Avianca Sales Director for Colombia and South America.
"We are very proud to collaborate with Avianca, Asocolflores and the Bureau of Medellin to celebrate the Flower Fair, an event that exalts our culture and traditions. These types of initiatives highlight Colombia as the country of beauty, connecting national and international travelers with the richness and diversity of our country. ProColombia remains committed to promoting these events that not only generate tourism, but also strengthen the image of Colombia globally," said Carmen Caballero, president of ProColombia.
"The beauty, quality and sustainability of the flowers grown in northeastern Antioquia reach the entire world. Antioquian floriculture has been fundamental in positioning Colombian Flowers abroad and, together with producers from other regions, has helped us become a sector recognized for the immense contribution it makes to the economic and social development of the communities where it is present, always in harmony and respect for nature," said Augusto Solano, president of the Colombian Association of Flower Exporters, Asocolflores.
Avianca, a partner of the Flower Fair, will participate in iconic activities in the city such as the La Eterna concert and the traditional flower parade, where more than 530 artists will present designs made with flowers. In total, the fair will have more than 100 activities to enjoy throughout the city for 10 days and more than 47,000 people are expected to attend.
Flowers that fly high with Avianca Cargo:
Every year this celebration pays tribute to the biodiversity in the region due to its wealth of flora, which contributes to positioning Colombia as the largest exporter of flowers in the world, after the Netherlands.
Currently, 40% of the national production flies to different parts of the world from the department of Antioquia and, in that sense, the role of Avianca Cargo in the export of flowers from this region has been fundamental.
Avianca Cargo is the leading cargo airline for the transportation of flowers from Colombia to North America and, this year, has transported 24,000 tons of flowers from the Antioquia region to the United States and 600 to Europe, through 11 weekly cargo flights and four passenger flights, respectively.
"At Avianca Cargo we are proud to be part of the Flower Fair. Together with Asocolflores, we support the flower sector in Colombia and the department of Antioquia, connecting their businesses with international markets, including North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We export a wide variety of flowers from this region, such as hydrangeas, chrysanthemums and sunflowers, during peak seasons such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, moving some 3,200 and 4,200 tons of flowers, respectively. The Rionegro cargo terminal is crucial thanks to the quality of its flowers and its efficient infrastructure, allowing us to ensure that they arrive fresh and on time at their destination. We will continue to dedicate all our efforts to strengthen and support this vital sector for the economy and culture of Colombia," said Diogo Elias, Senior Vice President of Avianca Cargo.
