Mexico: Seat occupancy on international flights reached 86% in June, the highest figure so far this year

For 2024, 35 million 880 thousand 972 seats are scheduled to Mexico from different regions of the world, which represents 4.9% more than what was scheduled in 2023

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that in June 2024, 2 million 801 thousand 468 seats were offered on international flights to Mexico, of which 2 million 401 thousand 775 passengers were transported, equivalent to an occupancy of 86% of the seats offered, the highest figure so far this year.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) reported that  the arrival of passengers on international flights to Mexico by region, in the first half of the year, was 14 million 858 thousand 593 passengers, of which 79% of the total came from North America; 11.9% from the Caribbean, Central and South America; 8.5% from Europe and 0.6% from Asia.

He noted that, according to information from the Official Airline Guide (OAG), for 2024, there is a schedule of 35 million 880 thousand 972 seats to Mexico from different regions of the world, which represents 4.9% more than what was scheduled in 2023, when there were 34 million 199 thousand 381 scheduled seats.

He mentioned that, from January to December of this year, the North American Region is the one that registers the highest number of scheduled seats to Mexico, with 28 million 168 thousand 363 seats, equivalent to 78.5% of the total.

He indicated that the Caribbean, Central and South America region follows with 4 million 427 thousand 380 seats, which is 12.3% of the total; as well as Europe with 3 million 70 thousand 860 seats, which represents 8.6%; while Asia has 214 thousand 369 seats, which represents 0.6% of the total.

Torruco Marqués indicated that by 2024, the airlines with the largest share of scheduled seats in international operations to Mexico are: American Airlines with 14.5% of the total and Aeroméxico with 13.3%; together they add up to 9 million 986 thousand seats.

The airports with the highest number of scheduled seats with international service to Mexico during 2024 are: Cancún, Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Guadalajara, totaling 25 million 273 thousand seats, equivalent to 70.4% of the total.

In turn, the main international routes to Mexico for 2024 with the highest number of scheduled seats are: Dallas-Cancun, with 691,932 seats; Los Angeles-Guadalajara, with 679,236 seats and Toronto-Cancun, with 660,728 seats.

The Secretary of Tourism highlighted the high occupancy of seats in international service to Mexico, as well as the increase in the number of seats scheduled in international services to different destinations in Mexico, highlighting that during the current administration, 482 new international routes have been opened to our country, which continues to strengthen tourism activity for the benefit of the local population, making tourism a tool for social reconciliation, as instructed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
