In addition, she noted that, according to the latest “Monthly Tourism Report”, a total of 1,874,800 foreign tourists visited the country in the first seven months of the year.
This report shows that, during the first seven months of 2024, the main markets issuing foreign tourists were Chile, the United States, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil and Colombia; the same ones that represented 67% of the foreign tourists who entered Peruvian territory, indicated the head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade (Mincetur).
Based on figures obtained through the immigration control offices of the National Immigration Superintendence, the recent "Monthly Tourism Report" shows that during the same period, 431,657 Chileans arrived in the country (representing 23% of the total number of foreign visitors), 360,006 Americans (19.2%), 154,296 Ecuadorians (8.2%), 108,091 Bolivians (5.8%), 107,793 Brazilians (5.7%) and 93,831 Colombians (5%).
At the regional block level, the arrival of 977,467 tourists from South America was recorded (equivalent to 52.1% of the total number of visits), as well as 459,720 citizens from North America (24.5%), 301,499 from Europe (16.1%) and 70,541 from Asia (3.8%).
On the other hand, only in July of this year, the flow of visits by inbound tourism increased by 17.2%, compared to the figures reached that month in 2023, registering the entry of 308,427 foreign citizens.
Visits to tourist attractions increase
Based on information shared by the Ministry of Culture and the National Service of Natural Protected Areas of the State (Sernanp), among others, the report shows an increase in the number of visits to some tourist attractions in Cusco between the months of January and June of this year.
In the case of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, an increase of 102.8% was observed in the flow of visitors in relation to the values reached in the first six months of 2023, with the entry of 648,268 people, including Peruvians and foreigners.
Also noteworthy is the Saqsayhuamán Esplanade in Cusco, with the arrival of 401,726 national and international tourists in the first half of 2024, a figure that exceeded by 97.1% the values received in the same period in 2023. In the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Park, the growth in visitors in this period was 111.8% compared to last year's record.
The Ballestas Islands, in Ica, exceeded by 42.9% the flow of visitors perceived during the first six months of 2023, with the entry of 273,962 national and foreign tourists, while the Colca Valley, in Arequipa, received 124,861 visitors, which represented a growth of 90.6% compared to last year's figures.
