The Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) will hold the 2024 Tourism Business Roundtable: “Peru, a destination for unique experiences”, with the aim of showcasing the best of the country's tourism offering and the latest travel experiences, designed to continue captivating Colombians with its culture, nature, adventure experiences and world-renowned gastronomy.
This meeting will take place in the city of Medellin on September 3 and in Bogota on September 5, and will bring together tour operators, airlines, retail and wholesale agencies and key players from both nations. In addition, training seminars will be held for local and regional travel agents, who will receive updated information on travel destinations, tourism plans, and training on the Andean country's gastronomy and culture.
Among the destinations that Peru will promote at the 2024 Tourism Business Roundtable are: Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Cusco, Puno, Ancash, La Libertad, Lambayeque and Loreto, regions with a wide range of unique experiences and with a service of outstanding tour operators.
Among the most exciting experiences are getting closer to ancestral communities and their customs, enjoying nature in the Amazon through cruises, and traveling by train through incredible places in Cusco, Arequipa and Puno, regions in southern Peru.
In the previous edition, held in 2023, 14 Peruvian companies participated, holding more than 300 business meetings in Medellín, Cali and Bogotá, generating a business potential of US$3 million. This year, it is expected to exceed these results, further boosting the commercialization and diversification of the Peruvian tourism offer.
Increase in Colombian travelers in Peru
According to official data from PROMPERÚ, Colombia is currently the fourth largest source of international tourists to Peru in South America and the fifth largest internationally. In 2023, 146,423 Colombian tourists arrived in Peru, which represents an increase of 10% compared to the 133,035 travelers in 2022.
As for 2024, between the months of January and July, 93,831 Colombian tourists have already visited Peru, achieving a growth of 19% compared to the same period of the previous year.
As for the most visited destinations by Colombians are: Lima, Cusco, Ica, Arequipa, Puno, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Piura and Loreto.
Regarding connectivity, until August 2024, there were 91 weekly flights between Peru and Colombia. There are direct flights connecting the city of Lima with Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena and Pereira, which are operated by the airlines LATAM, JetSmart, Wingo and Avianca. In addition, there is a new direct route from Bogotá to Cusco offered by Avianca.
