Well-connected countries tend to be more popular destinations for vacations, but also for conferences, events and business meetings. This also generates an increase in foreign currency earnings and allows regions to have more sources of income and not be limited to depending on a single market.

In August, Colombia had 1,432 direct international weekly frequencies, which meant a 10% growth compared to the same month in 2023. “This means that the country currently has 130 new frequencies that connect it to the world, the highest number reported in the last three years,” said Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.

He added: “Travelling around the world is easier today. Colombia is connecting more and more people to new destinations and this strengthens our brand as a country and encourages us to invest more in the infrastructure of airports, roads and tourist attractions of the destinations.”

On the other hand, the countries with which Colombia increased the number of frequencies the most were El Salvador, with an increase of 86%; Argentina, 76%; France, 71% (with which for several years there was only 1 daily flight); and Guatemala, 43%. However, those with which our country has the best connectivity are: the United States, Panama and Mexico.

“At ANATO we have done a lot of work in promoting tourism in Colombia, by supporting entrepreneurs to attend international fairs, where they present the tourism potential of our regions to the world. These initiatives, together with air connectivity, make it possible for us to be more competitive, with a more varied offer in the packages offered by Travel Agencies,” said the union leader.
